Research and Development Center: Conduct pioneering research, introduce new technology and provide specialized technical services that will enhance Saudi Aramco profitability and productivity in a cost-effective, timely and collaborative manner. There are eight projects identified within the R&D downstream program with the objective to protect the future market for oil:

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The position is for a research scientist with a biochemical engineering background to work as part a multidisciplinary team in the Petroleum Biotechnology Group, supporting existing and future R&D projects in the field of bioprocessing. The Petroleum Biotechnology Group s current research interests are in crude oil Biodesulfurization, Biocracking, Microbially Enhanced Oil Recovery, and novel microbial control.
The candidate s key role will be to contribute to ongoing projects by designing, building, commissioning and operating microbiological equipment at the bench and pilot plant scales, and demonstrate technical feasibility. Candidate will be responsible for the bioprocess development, modeling and economic feasibility of biotechnology processes and their transfer to field scale. Candidate will be expected to execute tasks and conduct the necessary experimental work to ensure smooth transfer of bioprocesses from laboratory to field scale. The candidate must have excellent written & verbal communication skills; he will prepare technical reports and give technical presentations both inside & outside the company. Candidate will be expected to train junior scientists and assistants working in incumbent s field.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
The successful candidate must have a PhD in Biochemical Engineering or a related field and 5 years working experience in Biotechnology R&D application to industrial processes, preferably in a petroleum environment. Incumbent should have experience in providing bioprocess engineering inputs to Biotechnology projects, and should be an expert in bioreactor design & scale-up, modeling and economic feasibility, preferably related to the petroleum industry. Must have a demonstrated ability to carry out laboratory work and be familiar with the operation of laboratory and pilot plant scale bioreactors/fermenters, and the associated bioseparation equipment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Ph.D. in Biochemistry or Chemical/Biochemical Engineering
5 years of experience related to fundamental and applied biochemistry research
Familiarity with advanced numerical techniques for chemical processing
Microbiology degree an advantage
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, build and commission biochemical and microbiological reactors for biocatalysis of oil compounds, especially anaerobically.)
Lead tasks and projects in his field.
Work closely with experimentalists in the Division to develop an appropriate experimental program.
Establish a strong contact and collaboration with outside researchers in his field.
Identify requirements and detailed specifications of needed computational tools and capabilities for his research
Work closely and collaboratively with other members of the technical and administrative staff.
Contribute technical consultation, expertise or work to other projects within the R&D Center or other departments as needed.
Write technical reports, papers, and patent applications as appropriate
Provide periodic progress reports and presentations to the management
Mentor and oversee development of Saudi Arab staff in his area of specialty
