Job Overview: A recognised leading provider of specialist services in gravity and magnetic geophysics to oil exploration companies, mining groups and government organizations worldwide seek a C++ Software Developer to continue the development of their cutting edge geophysical applications.

Working within a Windows environment, you will be developing across a variety of application disciplines, primarily in C++ although with some use of C#.Net. This is an exciting and extremely varied role allowing for the development of a broad range of scientific applications for internal use within the company.

The Company has developed a range of geophysical software for data acquisition, processing, interpretation, integration and presentation of data from the Client’s own instrumentation, public domain sources and customer databases. As the fourth member of the Development Team, your primary responsibility will be to develop, test and maintain these software applications.

Job Responsibilities: Reporting to the Geophysical Software Manager, your key tasks and responsibilities will include:
• Gain an understanding of the companies existing software architecture, code base and tools, and make efficient use of these where appropriate.
• Ensure that software written is robust, efficient and conforms to the client’s coding, testing and documentation procedures. Also, to contribute to development of these procedures.
• Ensure that all software written is entered into the company source code control and backup systems.
• Develop an understanding of the mathematical, physical and geophysical basis of the algorithms used in the acquisition, processing and interpretation activities. As appropriate, contribute to data analysis and algorithm development for these activities.
• Help foster a structured approach to software development and deployment within the group.
• Participate in team meetings and ensure that your manager and the team are kept informed of the work you are doing.
• Contribute to company-wide policy decisions within own areas of expertise.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships throughout the business, in particular liaise with peers in similar roles to gain benefits of common practices.
• Maintain professional awareness of external developments in software techniques and processes.

The Company recognise that you may not have the geophysical background but are fully committed to providing all necessary training as required.

Candidate Requirements: The successful candidate will have:
• A science degree essential preferably computer science, physics, Maths, Earth Science, etc.
• Minimum of 2 years commercial C++ software development essential, preferably in a Windows environment. Although experienced programmers with some knowledge of C++ will also be considered.
• Knowledge of Microsoft.Net programming desirable.
• Good experience in object orientated design and programming essential.
• Experience with PERL scripting and developing within a LINUX environment advantageous.
• Understanding of Numerical Modelling concepts desired although supervision provided with Algorithm development.
• Good understanding of the development life cycle desired.
• Understanding/knowledge of the oil and gas industry advantageous, especially geophysics.
• Highly accurate and methodical approach.
• Must be a team player with the ability to manage own workload
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Package: Dependent on skills and experience, the Company is offering a package of Base Salary £30K-£40K GBP plus company benefits of pension, bonus scheme, medical etc.
