Growing independent oil and gas exploration and production company is seeking to hire a PETROPHYSICIST for their Houston office. This is an excellent opportunity to join a mid-size independent organization which provides high visibility and professional growth.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is part of the team evaluating new development drilling and the monitoring of existing secondary and enhanced recovery projects.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop petrophysical models for oil and gas reservoirs to determine porosity, permeability and oil saturation.
• Recommend logging programs for new well drilling. Recommend whole core and sidewall core acquisitions, coordinate core testing procedures. Develop core to log petrophysical models.
• Recommend surveillance procedures to include cased hole logging programs. Coordinate surveillance data acquisition and data loading.
• Run petrophysical evaluations on open hole and cased hole logs. Recommend completion and injection intervals in new and existing wells based upon these evaluations.
• Coordinate the population and maintenance of well log data bases within OpenWorks and GeoGraphix.
• Develop and maintain contacts with open and cased hole logging service companies.
• Attend well reviews in field offices.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
• Bachelor’s degree in geology, geophysics or engineering.
• Minimum of six years experience with a major or independent oil and gas company or a major formation evaluation/oilfield service company.
• Experience in US Onshore exploitation
• Knowledge with sandstones, carbonates and complex lithology evaluation.
• Proficient in constructing projects and loading data into petrophysical, geological or engineering databases.
• Experience in the following: developing petrophysical models in a variety of sand and shale reservoirs; evaluating imaging and dipmeter logs; and evaluating standard open hole and cased hole gamma, resistivity, porosity and acoustic logs.
• Proficiency in Excel, Word and formation evaluation formats from different FE vendors and basic knowledge of Geographix and/or OpenWorks. Knowledge of one of the other leading petrophysical databases and analysis software programs may be substituted.
• Strong analytical skills required. Comfortable evaluating numerous wells in a short time frame and responding quickly to requests of multiple teams.
• High degree of independent thinking and initiative to prioritize workload and determine how best to accomplish tasks. Resourcefulness to search for solutions and knowledge on how to achieve a desired result.
• Individual needs to work in field from time to time as well as in the office.
MUST BE LEGALLY AUTHORIZED TO WORK FULL TIME IN THE U.S.
