Position Overview/Purpose:

The offshore Australia Macedon Development operated by BHP Billiton has an opening for a highly motivated Senior Geophysicist. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing subsurface evaluations using 3D, and as needed 2D seismic. The successful candidate is expected to provide seismic reprocessing and well planning expertise to the Macedon team.. The Macedon project is directly adjacent to the BHPB operated Pyrenees development. The Macedon gas development project in the future will encompasses field development activities, near-term production operations (gas injection), and potentially near-field Appraisal operations. As such, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing geophysical input and technical expertise over a broad spectrum of field development challenges.

Key Relationships:

The candidate will work closely with the Macedon Production Team and the Pyrenees Producion Team.

* GTT and PGT Team (e.g. seismic reprocessing, velocity modeling, time-depth conversion, structural reconstruction etc.)
* Appraisal Team
* Gas Marketing
* Drilling and Completions team, and Shallow hazards and Geological Operations teams
* Joint Venture partner Apache
* Appropriate government agencies as required

Core Accountabilities:

This position reports to the Macedon Geoscience Coordinator.

Key accountabilities will be to:

* Interface with Macedon/Pyreness Geoscience and Subsurface Engineering teams and IPT team members on all subsurface related matters.
* Implement processes to improve workflow efficiency.
* Communicate with JV partner Apache and regulatory agencies on technical issues and expedite their approvals, as necessary.
* Maintain knowledge base in completion and production technology and incorporate value-added technology into completion/production procedures, and technology planning/budgeting.
* Work with Geoscience function to ensure compliance with standards.
* Develop and maintain networks and working relationships with key peers and colleagues in other asset teams (especially BHPB’s Western Australia properties e.g. Pyreness) for proposes of information and ideas sharing
* Adhere to HSEC Policy and Management Standards
* Support HSEC initiatives and ensure compliance with the agreed HSEC procedures and practice of all activities in areas of discipline responsibility.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary team environment responsible for the development of the Macedon field. Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

* Conduct subsurface evaluations and mapping using seismic and well data.
* Assist with structural reconstruction, reservoir mapping, connectivity and characterization studies.
* Champion seismic acquisition, depth conversion and reprocessing efforts (e.g. contractor selection, improvements to imaging below diagenetic zones, velocity model construction, time-depth conversion etc.)
* Assist and take on lead authorship of field development reports and Well Design documents (BOWD’s) as needed
* Lead well planning team(s) as needed.
* Interface with Shallow Hazards, Drilling and Well Operations teams as needed
* In collaboration with team, generate contingency plans for e.g. a.) seismic/hazards acquisition operations b.) well activities and sidetrack options b.) SIMOPS events and c.) wellbore geophysical and other wellbore data acquisition.
* Monitor seismic acquisition, processing and as required well operations and develop operational “look-aheads” to facilitate contingency planning and adequate resourcing allocation
* Utilize decision analysis techniques to evaluate decisions and value of information.
* Ensure that all seismic and geophysical-related well data is accurately housed in the appropriate project and corporate databases and prepared for efficient handover
* Liaison and coordinate with other teams, in-house specialists, contractors and consultants. Engage and monitor work by specialists and specialist contractors as and when needed
* Help communicate the team’s technical results, conclusions and recommendations to joint venture partner and BHP Billiton staff in both formal and informal forums.
* Coordinate with Regulatory/Land/Contracts team to ensure required permits and submittals are properly filed.
* The Macedon Senior Geophysicist may be required to assist with mapping and conducting subsurface evaluations for other Western Australia and BHPB development projects (e.g. Thebe, Scarborough etc.)

Competencies:

Leadership

The candidate must be able to take a lead technical role in specific projects but also be comfortable with working in a modern non-hierarchical environment. The position requires that the candidate be comfortable making sound decisions and recommendations to the Geoscience, Drilling, Operations, Marketing and Subsurface Engineering teams and the Macedon IPT (sometimes with incomplete or imprecise information). The position requires that the candidate take a pro-active approach toward problem solving and be action-oriented.

Interpersonal

The candidate will be able to work well in a multi-discipline team. The person should be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal, and communication / influencing skills. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate good multi-disciplinary collaboration skills.

The candidate must demonstrate decision influencing skills, with both in-house staff teams and JV partner(s) in formal and informal settings.

Business Awareness

The candidate must be action oriented and consistently deliver results and meet stated deadlines.

The candidate must adhere to the BHP Billiton Corporate Guide to Business conduct

Experience and technical competencies:

The candidate should have 8 years or more of relevant experience in the upstream petroleum industry. Familiarity with Geophysical workstation mapping techniques and workflows is required.

Experience with the following is beneficial:

* Demonstrated technical writing skills
* 3D seismic acquisition (streamer and OBS)
* Reservoir connectivity studies
* Practical experience with 3D and 2D seismic reprocessing projects
* Offshore Drilling Operations

Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in relevant engineering or geoscience discipline
