The Research and Development Center's mission is to conduct pioneering research, introduce new technology and provide specialized technical services that will enhance Saudi Aramco profitability and productivity in a cost-effective, timely and collaborative manner. There are 8 projects identified within the R&D downstream program with the objective to protect the future market for oil: - Whole Crude Oil Desulfurization - Petroleum Combustion - Oil to Hydrogen - Carbon Management - Oil to Chemicals - Clean Fuels - Natural Gas Supply & Sulfur - Biotechnology
POSITION DESCRIPTION: We have an immediate opening in our state-of-the-art R&D facility in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. R&D activities include advanced Fuel Formulation, additive development, engine testing, intra-company technical services, and fundamental applied research. The successful candidate will focus on the development of new technology and advances in the fuel formulation area.
SELECTION CRITERIA: - PhD in Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry - Excellent command of oral and written English with capabilities to write and present technical papers - Proficient in IT with excellent compute skills using specialized software: Matlab, Chemkin..etc. - Have knowledge of refining processes and economics - Good understanding of fuel properties and petroleum testing - Have knowledge of analytical chemistry and tools - Ability to work in lab and conduct experimental work - Ability to perform data and system analysis - Demonstrate initiative, innovative, be self driven with high energy and commitment. - Self motivated in terms of learning and independence of thought - Ability to work in diverse teams to achieve common objectives - Communicate openly and effectively
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The successful applicant will possess a PhD in organic chemistry and have 10+ years of Fuel Formulation and/or Fuel Synthesis experience. Additionally he must have a proven track record in innovation and product development; excellent verbal and written communication skills and work well as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas: formulation and/or synthesis; stage-gate project management; creative problem solving skills; and experience in the fuel or oil industry. We are looking for a self starter who can take the initiative to drive new chemistries from the bench to the formulation stage.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Formulation & synthesis of surrogate fuels to fit modern engines. Work closely with combustion engineers to define fuel control parameters. Develop, improve, and customize processes and analytical methods. Confer with Company scientists and engineers to conduct analyses for research projects, interpret test results, or develop new or non-standard tests. Write technical papers and reports and prepare standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products and tests. Lead & mentor younger Saudi chemists to develop Fuel Specialists. Use knowledge of scale-up and troubleshooting procedures in conjunction with experience developed from bench top work to provide support to the development of manufacturing procedures and process development. Provide technical support to cross-functional groups such as sales and marketing.
