Description Our client is a major international Operator with an office in central London. They are looking for a Senior Drilling Engineer with a minimum of 10 - 15 years' experience. This will initially be an office-based role located in London, with time spent offshore as drilling commences. The assets are based mainly in the North Sea, though some are offshore Ireland. One particular asset, in the Faroes, will involve Ultra-Deep Water work. The contract will be initially for 12 months, though can be renewed by mutual consent after the first year. The appointed Engineer will be expect either to reside permanently in London, although an allowance may be offered to cover accommodation and travel costs, should you wish to commute/travel home at weekends. To diligently plan, engineer, organise, support and report on UK drilling operations in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner, achieving technical objectives by applying accepted engineering practices. To deputise for the Drilling Superintendent and act as a member of the Emergency Response Team as required. Services and Material/ Equipment Procurement. Organisation of drilling engineering activities. Offshore drilling operations follow-up. Responsible for drilling technical input to Safety Management System. Responsible for directional drilling plans, follow up and final well surveying. Provide advice and to co-operate with the Drilling Superintendent in reviewing the scopes of work and technical specifications prepared by the Drilling Engineer. Co-operate with the Drilling Superintendent for providing advice and technical specification during pre-qualification and tender evaluation phases in order to ensure that the choice of contractors and suppliers fully meet with technical targets and company standards. Supply well cost estimates for future operations budget and current operations Authorisation For Expenditure (AFE), ensuring the reliability of the data provided. Contribute to the planning of exploration and development projects providing technical inputs to the project teams, in order to optimise cost and drilling performance of the project. Appraise new drilling technology products to determine their applications in the client's drilling operations, in order to improve time cost performance and safety conditions. Prepare all relevant documents for drilling requested by regulatory bodies. Prepare and review the drilling programs and final reports and ensure technical analysis about the operations as per SMS and corporate requirements. Ensure that an auditable trail exists. Provide engineering advice to the Drilling Superintendent in the operations follow up. Assist his/ her Supervisor in contacts with partners and regulatory bodies providing necessary documentation and reports. Review of UK non operated activities as required. Review and update all Drilling Procedures, Manuals in order to ensure compliance with company policies and current legislation. Update technical improvements and suggest appropriate materials/equipment (e.g. drilling bits, downhole tools, motors, etc). Weekend Duty Rota: Act as duty drilling superintendent on assigned weekends and holiday periods supervising offshore operations and responding to calls from the rig. Emergency control room duties as defined in the Emergency Procedures Manual. Ensure full adherence to the Companys Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and standards. Direct and functional reporting relationships; interaction within and between departments and functions. Reports directly to the Drilling Manager Liaise with immediate subordinates - Drilling Engineer - When on call - Offshore Drilling Supervisor. Liaise with all UK Departments to obtain the required information to meet DRL objectives. Liaison requirements with other companies; consultants; agencies; professional associations; peer groups etc Liaison with designated representatives of the partners for drilling engineering and non operated activities. Liaison with other Operators. Liaison with relevant UKOOA bodies. Liaison with drilling services and equipment contractors and manufacturers representatives to review performance and appraise technology. Liaise with HSE and DTI for drilling activities. Liaison with relevant Government and Environmental bodies (i.e. HSE, DTI, DOT, MAFFs, SOAEFD, MOD, JNCC etc). Represent UK as required on Technical committees and work groups. Liaise, together with HSE, with well examination body and ensure all approvals received prior to operations commencement.
Qualifications Required: Engineering/Science based qualifications with numerate skills.
Drilling Engineering training and experience. Specific knowledge of drilling related topics. Additional Specialised Knowledge or Skills: General knowledge of associated disciplines i.e. Geology, Petroleum Engineering and Reservoir. Special Aptitudes or Personality Attributes Required: Judgement, initiative, problem solving, decision making, attention to detail, planning, organisation, time management. Teamwork and good communication skills. PC literate.
