Duties
- This position will deal with the broad spectrum of fire protection engineering functions.
- Review design engineering drawings and ensure conformance to client documents, fire & gas philosophy, and applicable code and industry standard requirements.
- Prepare system specifications, MTOs, and purchase requisitions.
- Develop technical responses to technical questions on National Fire Protection AssociationNFPA codes and related topics.
- Ability to provide quality review of engineering calculations.
- Must be qualified to approve the design of Fire and Gas systems within the State of Alaska.
- Minimum 5 years experience in Fire and Gas detection and alarm systems in Oil and Gas production or petrochemical facilities.
- Additional experience and qualification to perform testing and evaluation of Fire and Gas systems installations is desired as is experience in facility fire protection.
- Develop and write engineering scopes of work and project change requests.
- Prepare estimates for all project phases.
- Develop and review schedules for assigned projects.
- Apply standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Duties include gathering and recording information for writing specifications and preparing technical reports.
- Report project performance using earned value terms.
- Review vendor bids to ensure compliance with project design specifications.
- Coordinate and perform quality control of CAD work prepared by designers.
- Ability to prepare engineering packages from inception to as-builts.
- Evaluate field problems and provide solutions. - Develop project completion documents.
- Perform duties as a discipline lead as well as mentor lower-level engineers.
- Design build engineering experience pertaining to industrial petroleum process alarms and fire suppression applications.
- Knowledgeable in using IBC, IFC, local and NFC codes.
- Must be able to interpret, review, and develop fire and gas strategies.
- Effective written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate clearly with all disciplines and remote personnel required.
- Must have excellent mathematical, problem-solving, communication, organizational, and planning skills.
Experience preferred:
- Preferred Alaska P.E. and/or Alaska Fire Marshall permit.
- Experience in arctic oil fields, gas/oil separation plants, pipeline facilities, gathering stations, and processing plants.
- Experience coordinating with client equipment documentation systems.
- Experience writing and training field personnel on standard operating procedures.
- Extensive studies and experience in fire protection engineering
- Knowledge of life safety and building code criteria
- Knowledge of the SFPE Handbook of Fire Protection Engineering is desired
-Knowledge of ISA 12.13 Combustible Gas Standards and ISA 92 Toxic Gas Standards
- Proven Design experience within Fire Systems, to include Wet Systems and Suppression. Sprinklers and Gaseous
- Ability to deal with design from concept to completion.
- Experience of working in Special Hazard environments.
- Ability to work with other disciplines and teams to ensure successful completion of project.
- Working knowledge of NFPA.
- Preferable experience of working within the Oil & Gas industry as a Fire & Gas Engineer.
Certifications
PE in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with sufficient experience or by Alaska Fire Marshal office permit.
Project Management Institute PMI certification a plus.
