BHP Billiton Iron Ore is an industry leader in the supply of iron ore to the global steel industry. We are expanding our operations through a series of Rapid Growth Projects to help us meet demand. Position Synopsis

As part of the expansion, BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s Resource Evaluation Group is undertaking a long-term integrated geological program to convert potential mineralisation through to resources and reserves, and to discover new iron ore deposits.

This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic safety focussed professional to build their career working on exciting projects within a well resourced and supportive team. Reporting to the Project Leader you will apply your expertise in exploration and resource development to the supervision of drilling programs in the Central Pilbara, ensuring that projects are implemented and delivered with best practice.

With an eye for detail and an ability to work to deadlines with minimal supervision, your responsibilities will include:

* Supporting regional exploration programs including the design, implementation, interpretation and reporting of drilling programs;
* Geological logging, interpretation, modelling, reporting and project work;
* Managing QA/QC of sampling and undertaking geochemical interpretation.
* Undertaking geological programs, including mapping, sampling, geophysics and drilling in exploration areas;
* Safety leadership including facilitating safety meetings and initiatives, auditing for employees and contractors
* Assist in managing our portfolio of tenements and projects including statutory work;
* Technical and safety mentoring of geologists, field technicians and drilling contract staff; and
* Contractor management and stakeholder engagement.

Skills and Experience

You will be a tertiary qualified geologist committed to best practice in geological data collection and interpretation. Your experience in major drilling programs, ideally in iron ore, will enable you to contribute to the project team and lead in the field. You will be confident to make and implement decisions impacting technical, and safety and environmental outcomes.

The successful applicant’s technical skills will be complemented by a demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and cost management, and strong communication skills. You will be proficient in ArcGIS; experience in Vulcan and 3D modelling will be favourably considered.

Location

This role is based at Area C and is offered on a Fly In/Fly out basis from Perth on a family friendly roster. Area C is a modern camp with a newly refurbished gym, mobile telephone coverage and a continual focus of creating a home away from home lifestyle.
