The Gregory Joint Venture is one of eight mines and a port owned and operated by the BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance. The mine employs approximately 330 people and produces 5.5 million raw tonnes of high quality coking coal per annum. The mine is located 50km from the township of Emerald which has a population of approximately 14,000. Emerald is a large modern regional centre based on rural, tourism and service industries as well as mining, and boasts an excellent range of services and facilities.

A vacancy currently exists at Gregory Crinum Mine for a Senior Geologist to join our Technical Services Department. The purpose of this position is to effectively plan, coordinate and continuously improve the geological functions and provide operations monitoring and reporting to enable the achievement of short and long term business objectives. As Gregory Crinum Mine has both opencut and underground operations the role offers an excellent career development opportunity.

The successful candidate will be required to have:

• A commitment to working safely and creating a safe work environment

• Relevant Geosciences tertiary qualifications.

• Have relevant experience in coal geology and coal quality, coal exploration techniques, mine geology, geotechnics, computerised geological databases and modeling,

• Good analytical skills.

• Previous supervisory experience

• Be computer literate in the MS Office software suite (SAP, GBis database and Vulcan modelling software experience will be looked upon favourably).

• Ability to coach and develop staff and foster a positive and productive working relationship between team members and with other departments
