Aerotek Energy Services is seeking a LEAD PIPING ENGINEER for our oil & gas client here in Houston, TX. This position is a long term contract position. Our client is a leader in the development and supply of Single-Point Mooring (SPM) systems, and is engaged in research involving new and improved tanker mooring systems and associated components. Projects range from preliminary design studies to major engineering, fabrication, and procurement projects that include installation and commission.

Permanent and disconnectable internal turret moorings

Marine import/export terminals (CALM and SALM buoys)

KIT (Keel Integrated Transfer) systems
SOFEC, Inc.
Requirements for Lead Piping Engineer:
- Manages the engineering design process of piping engineers and designers, from design basis through design validation.
- BS Mechanical Engineering
- 10 to 15, or more, years of experience in offshore or marine Piping Engineering
- Assist with job interviews, makes salary recommendations, conducts performance reviews and makes recommendations for hiring
- Plans and assigns personnel for given projects. Coordinates, monitors and reviews work in detail. Is responsible for engineering quality and timeliness in a highly cross-functional engineering environment.
- Expert in offshore piping design and codes
- Able to develop piping schematics and layouts based on customer requirements and specifications
- Prepares documentation, information and communications, Engineering Change Notices, specifications and ensures conformance to policies relating to engineering procedures, functions and systems.
- Provides technical follow up and support on piping matters, from proposal stage to aftermarket, including vendor comparison and selection, fabrication site support, installation, start-up and operation.
- Responds to classification and customer comment letters.
- Can organize work, monitor, report and achieve progress to schedule
- Prepares documentation, reports, correspondence, procedures, specifications and technical calculations
- Expert with piping components materials and specifications. I.e. which specs govern common component performance / dimensions and materials (such as ASME B16.5 for flange dimensions and ratings, ASTM A105 as common material for forged flanges etc.)
- Good knowledge of spreadsheets and data bases a definite plus.
- Capable of strength of materials / structural calculations to support pipe design and verification.
- Prepare for and participate in HAZID (Hazard Identification) studies and HAZOPs. Ensure HAZOP actions and recommendations are appropriately answered and closed out.
- Familiarity with risk assessment concepts and methods. Responsible for supporting risk assessment studies conducted for projects.
- Has basic knowledge of offshore production process requirements - capable of developing P&IDs from customer specifications
- Has a basic understanding of process requirements and operations.
- Experience in use of pipe stress analysis programs. In house programs are Algor and Caesar II.
- Provides input to project scheduling for dependencies, durations and manpower requirements.Develops plans for sharing resources among competing projects, including management of subcontractors
- Ability to perform pressure drop calculations
- Able to do material take-offs and center of gravity calculations.
- CAD capabilities. Primary in-house CAD engine is AutoCAD.
- Experience and capabilities in PDMS a plus.
- Willing to travel if required to participate in HAZOPs, project reviews, fabrication site visits. Durations typically are for approximately two weeks.
