Our most recent growth project, Rapid Growth Project 5, will take installed capacity at our Western Australian Iron Ore operations to 205mpta by the second half of calendar year 2011.

Our high performing Investment Evaluation team is a blend of financial specialists and technical experts, who work across all aspects of our business creating value through rigorous planning and investment optimisation.

The team as a whole is focused on:

* Preparing and using business valuation and financial models;
* Undertaking economic valuations and functional reviews of all significant capital projects;
* Managing the Life of Asset planning activity, and supporting strategy and 5 year planning activities, in line with the BHP Billiton way of planning. This entails coordinating the delivery of key inputs from the various stakeholders to produce long term business plans and valuation analysis;
* Delivering operational site support and training. Specifically this includes problem framing tools such as Decision Analysis and Investment Evaluation and Range Analysis to assist with investment analysis; and
* Influencing various projects, involving new products, joint ventures, asset divestment/ownership restructuring, competitor analysis and operational improvements.

Position Synopsis

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Manager Investment Evaluation leads the economic evaluation function and valuation capability development for the Iron Ore Customer Sector Group (CSG). This includes evaluation quality assurance for new business opportunities (Greenfield, Brownfield, and Mergers and Acquisitions), existing assets/businesses, closure liabilities and divestments.

Interacting with all levels of CSG management including the Chief Development Officer and Asset Leaders, the Manager Investment Evaluation will be accountable for embedding the relevant systems and behaviours to support sound decision making for investments, and for delivering high quality, fit-for-purpose and timely outcomes. This includes direct accountability for the Iron Ore Investment System, Life of Asset planning, Iron Ore Price Protocol and provision of Valuation Expert Services to the CSG for the full range of Capital and Strategic Projects.

Skills and Experience

You will be tertiary qualified in a Technical or Financial discipline, preferably with significant experience in the resources industry. Attainment of a postgraduate qualification, such as an MBA, MAppFin or CFA Charter, will be highly regarded.

An analytical thinker, you are able to demonstrate your effective use of systematic approaches in solving problems through the analysis and evaluation of alternatives. You will possess strong experience in decision analysis, corporate finance theory and have a solid understanding of industry dynamics and price impacts.

Your excellent interpersonal and proven leadership ability will facilitate your success in working with a diversity of people, developing productive relationships, negotiating beneficial outcomes, and building high morale and team commitment to business goals and objectives. Outstanding oral and written communication skills are essential to facilitate your efforts to influence and persuade, challenge or support tactical and strategic business objectives.

Location

This role is based in Perth. Full relocation will be offered to the successful candidate. We invite applications from international and Australian residents.
