REPORTING TO: GENERAL MANAGER

>> Primary tasks of the Chief Geologist:-
• Supervise and direct a geological team to perform work involving Geology, Resource Development, Grade Control, Near Mine and Regional Exploration.
• To make independent judgement in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of accepted geological techniques, procedures and criteria to optimise geological knowledge and the management of the Company’s gold mine resource assets.

>> Lead the Geological Team to ensure that all activities meet the Company’s business needs by:-
• Developing and ensuring the continuous improvement of safety best practice.
• Developing and promoting a culture of continuous improvement in Geological strategies, systems and practices that will result in the optimisation of results.
• Managing the Geological team and setting priorities to ensure that targets are met.
• Manage the section’s budget and ensure that contractors comply with terms and conditions of agreements.
• Determine the requirements for geological consultants and contractors to enable targets to be met, and to ensure that the cost benefits and performance meet business requirements.
• Manage contract drilling programs and associated labour requirements.
• Manage all regional exploration and production grade control requirements
• Manage the geological resource model and ensure that necessary updates provide the greatest reliability possible using available data.

>> Qualifications and experience for this role would include but not be limited to:
• A recognised Tertiary qualification in Geological Science;
• A minimum of 10 years experience in exploration and mining with some of that time in an open pit mining environment encompassing production grade control and reconciliation responsibilities;
• Demonstrated experience in the development and execution of gold exploration programs, in the leadership of successful resource extension / delineation drilling programs, and in meeting production requirements from mine operation and processing disciplines;
• The ability and drive to lead a multi national team in a technically challenging and geographically remote environment;
• Well-developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills preferably in French and in English.
