Main Responsibilities:
The Lead Rotating Equipment Engineer’s main function will be to undertake supervision, inspection and field engineering activities on behalf of Company in the area of Rotating Equipment to ensure that the equipment is implemented in accordance with the Project Integrated Basis of Design and all Project requirements, procedures, budgets and schedules.
He will manage the skillpool of rotating equipment engineers in the project team who will functionally report to him and will act as mentor to his team.
Within these areas of responsibility he will be required to:
Ensure Project HSE targets are met or exceeded.
Coordinate and provide rotating equipment engineering expertise to ensure that the plant will function in accordance with the Project Integrated Basis of Design.
Ensure that the specified Quality requirements for rotating equipment work are met and are consistent throughout the various project locations (LNG trains, on-plot, off-sites, etc).
Ensure that rotating equipment works are executed in an efficient and timely manner in order to meet the Project time schedule and budget requirements.
Monitor and control the EPC Contractor in the execution of his responsibilities under the EPC Contract.
Ensure that interfaces with other parts of the Project and all Project stakeholders are adequately managed.
Primary Accountabilities:
The scope of the Lead Rotating Equipment engineer includes but is not limited to the following:
Manage the activities of rotating equipment engineering and skillpool on site
Monitor the installation of rotating equipment until point of mechanical completion.
Witness tests for critical rotating machinery
Monitor vendor activities at site
Liaise with Operations in order to create ownership and understanding of rotating equipment
Handle related issues (e.g. vendor concession requests and deviations to standards and specifications)
Contribute to As-built documentation for the project
Implement lessons learnt from previous Company projects and apply uninterrupted start-up philosophy.
Specifically the incumbent will:
Monitor, inspect, audit and guide all engineering and construction activities related to general installation and testing of rotating machinery performed by the EPC contractor in order to achieve a safe, healthy, environmentally friendly, timely and within budget realization of the project.
Ensure that equipment implementation is performed in accordance with the FEED specifications and / or approved variations and will meet Project contractual, statutory and regulatory requirements.
Monitor and review the activities of the EPC Contractor, ensuring that his activities are in accordance with all Project contractual, statutory and regulatory requirements.
Witness and inspect rotating equipment works as indicated on the approved EPC Inspection Test Plans and Specifications.
Take a leading role in Audits related to rotating equipment.
Be responsible for field engineering matters regarding rotating equipment works when on site.
Take an active role in safety management on site. Participate in HSE walks. HSE is a line responsibility.
Liaise and coordinate with and provide expert technical advice to the other disciplines and groups in the project team to adequately manage the interfaces for rotating equipment.
Liaise with other members of the Project and Construction Team to ensure that the rotating equipment engineering activities are fully aligned with Project requirements.
Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with counterparts in Company project in order to monitor activities and ensure that design and lessons learned are incorporated into Project execution in a timely manner and potential synergies are fully realized.
Keep the Area Construction Superintendent fully informed on matters related to his area of responsibility so that decisions can be made based on the best available information in a timely manner, and highlight those issues which have an impact on Project Basis of Design, safety, cost, reliability and maintainability, or schedule. Provide verbal and written reports as necessary in order to communicate such information.
Be familiar with all Project Philosophies and Procedures and ensure that these are applied to the specification, design and procurement of these Systems.
Ensure full compliance with all applicable Company and Project policies and procedures.
Establish effective working relationships with the Project Teams, Company and Shareholders.
Work effectively with PMT Members, Project Staff, Contractors and others to establish and maintain required working interfaces with technical groups during Project execution
RequirementsExperience and Qualifications:
Qualifications - Professionally-qualified Engineer with qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or related rotating machinery disciplines (minimum BSC or equivalent).
Experience - At least 10-15 years experience in rotating machinery related positions, preferably related to Oil and Gas Industries with experience in large multi-national and multi-location projects. Have proven experience in installation of large and/or critical rotating machinery. Particularly large frame GT’s and compressors and cryogenic machinery.
The position requires an ability to liaise effectively at all organizational levels and to represent the Project on rotating equipment related matters.
The incumbent shall also:
Be able to cope in a positive and productive manner within a high-pressure environment as expected in a large Project with an aggressive schedule.
Possess the skills to work across disciplines and be able to consider rotating equipment issues in the wider context of the LNG facility.
Be able to lead a group of discipline rotating engineers.
Have knowledge and experience in personal computing skills, including MS Outlook and Microsoft’s Windows Office suite of applications
Be able to work well as a member of a large international multi-ethnic Project Team.
Be willing to travel internationally for extended periods of time and to live outside his home country.
Have good oral communication abilities and good writing skills in the English language.
