Barrick is headquartered in Toronto, Canada and has 27 mining operations with many advanced exploration projects located across 5 continents and a large number of tenements located on some of the most prolific and prospective mineral trends. 12 of Barricks mines and mining projects are located in North America, with the Pueblo Viejo project falling under this jurisdiction.

Pueblo Viejo is one of Barrick's highest profile projects. Located in the Dominican Republic, this mine is projected to be one of Barrick's greatest gold producers utilizing state of the art mining and processing technology. Located approximately 90 minutes from Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic's capital, it will contribute greatly to the local economy for years to come.

The Pueblo Viejo project is a joint venture between Barrick Gold Corporation (60%) and GoldCorp (40%) and will be operated by Barrick through the Pueblo Viejo Dominicana Corporation (PVDC).

PVDC is currently looking for a Process Plant Maintenance Senior Planner working out of Vancouver for 1 year followed by a relocation to the Dominican Republic in the summer of 2010.

Position Overview

The Process Plant Maintenance Senior Planner shall be responsible for the establishment and coordination of all Fixed Plant planning initiatives and activities that shall be required and incorporated into the development and execution stages of the Pueblo Viejo Project.

The role will transition from Vancouver to site during construction whereby the incumbent will ensure that all Fixed Plant planning based initiatives are implemented as required through to and including commissioning and eventually operation of the plant.

Primary Main Duties and Responsibilities

During the design and engineering phase of the project for the Process Plant.

* Develop the vision, mission and strategy for the planning group and assist the various superintendents in the Fixed Plant area as required to develop area specific strategies.
* Take the lead role in the development of the Oracle based CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System), this will be based on the requirements of the various Fixed Plant Superintendents.
* Assist with the identification and management of operating spares based on the maintenance strategy and the vender OEM recommendations.
* Develop BOMs (bill of materials) for use in Oracle based on OEM recommended spares both held on site and available spares.
* Develop a preventative maintenance strategy for the creation of PMs suitable for the effective maintenance of the plant. This may include the application FMEAs.
* Review relevant consultant specifications, drawings and especially OEM manuals to ensure that maintenance best practices are adopted and transitioned into the planning component of the CMMS.
* Contribute and take lead position from a maintenance and planning perspective during the various HAZOP and risk assessment phases of the project design. Ensuring that practical knowledge from operations experience are applied where appropriate and that where required maintenance measures are captured and transitioned into systems, PMs, for the Maintenance sections use and implementation.
* Prepare contributions to month end reports as requested and as required.
* Assist with the establishment of a maintenance safety program inclusive of the creation of necessary CMMS based PMs to satisfy all local authority and Barrick Policy mandatory requirements. Create a system that ensures that these functions are recorded when completed as scheduled to ensure compliance.
* Develop maintenance Standard Operating Procedures, (SOP’s), Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMP’s), for use during commissioning and operations.

Progressive Main Duties and Responsibilities

During the Commissioning and Operating Phases of the Project.

* In consultation with the MTS superintendent, identify, recruit and train suitable and experienced senior and junior maintenance planning personnel for the process plant.
* Provide supervision to the planning group and manage and promote Barrick Policy and specific PVDC safety and training programs.
* Develop a system to ensure that the planning team become familiar with the plant and requirements of the various superintendents that shall be serviced by the planning section during operations, specifically shutdown requirements.
* Develop and test specific shutdown plans and schedules. A critical component of the planning section function shall be the management and execution of shutdowns which shall include manning and material management. This shall include daily, weekly, fortnightly and as required unplanned shutdown plans and schedules.
* Contribute to the day to day commissioning of the plant to ensure a smooth transition from the construction team to the incumbent operations group.
* Plan and schedule all Fixed Plant maintenance tasks in conjunction with maintenance and operations personnel of the process plant, this will include the establishment of a seamless relationship between the operations and maintenance groups.
* Contribute to the development of best practices in work identification, planning, scheduling and reporting processes.
* Contribute to the zero-based budgeting for the maintenance of the process plant and develop and monitor budgets for the planning group.

Qualifications

* Bachelors degree in a relevant Engineering discipline (e.g. Maintenance Management and Reliability, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering) is prefered
* Or a trade background with numerous years experience in a senior planning role.
* 10+ years planning experience and 5+ at a supervisory level in a maintenance environment preferably gold or other mineral processing.
* Experience should demonstrate ability to safely and efficiently manage all activities in the maintenance of a complex process plant.
* Experience with the maintenance and at a planning level of a pressure oxidation process plant would be highly regarded.
* Sound understanding of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems’ (CMMS) fundamental functionality and preferably with Oracle and with EaM Superstatus.
* Proven track record in developing and implementing maintenance safety and training strategies and programs.
* Ability to assess subordinates and provide coaching and training as required so that individuals can achieve their highest level of proficiency possible.
* Ability to develop clearly understood procedures for the effective and successful management of the Planning Section.
* Ability to diagnose subordinate’s industrial and where required personnel issues and problems and offer resolutions suitable to all parties.
* Accomplished and proficient computer literacy, specifically MS Word, Excel, MS Project or similar.
* Understanding and knowledge of maintenance systems in a gold processing environment.
* General understanding of the importance of statutory requirements either as directed by the Govt authorities or relevant standards and by laws.
* Willingness to travel as required up to 25%.
* Above average communication skills, able to speak, read and write essentially English and preferably Spanish.
