Location: Saudi Arabia POSITION DESCRIPTION: The candidate will participate in providing technical service to Marine Department and other Saudi Aramco organizations on Marine matters and problems. Work requires application of expertise/background in the fields of structure (naval architecture) and/or Marine systems (Marine engineering). Will make frequent internal contacts with representatives of served organizations, both for the purpose of defining new vessel requirements and assisting with justification development, as well as resolution of current operational problems with existing Marine vessels. Moreover, routine contact with Purchasing and Material Support Departments will be required. Additionally, external contacts with ASC and AOC Engineers, engineering firm consultants, equipment manufacturers and vessel builders to resolve design, technical and operating matters. Contacts with contractors concerning contract scope, price negotiation, performance evaluation, and to resolve points of disagreement on operations or costs. The incumbent is to be familiar with the technical/the administrative aspects of marine repair and the practical aspects of marine operations. Will be required to undertake and/or coordinate assignments with minimum supervision such as the following: a) Project Engineering: Coordinate & define new vessel building projects from concept to delivery. Responsible for the identification and integration of classification society and regulatory body requirements into both new building projects and existing vessel modifications. Project value will vary from $25 M to $25MM. b) Port Engineering: Provide a comprehensive, cost effective maintenance and repair service to various vessels within the Saudi Aramco fleet, which includes routine vessel inspections, preparation of detailed written repair specifications, labor and material estimates and on-site inspections during refits. Provide comprehensive support in the planning and accomplishment of ship repair activities. Specific areas of responsibility will include planning, quality assurance, and diagnostics & material identification.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: BS Engineering. Experience: 7 years in relevant marine service preferably vessel operations, and/or vessel construction/repair. A thorough knowledge of English is required to perform analysis and studies in depth, make professional presentations, and keep up with technical advancements. Sound knowledge and experience with international regulatory body requirements, classification standards, marine engineering practices, specifications and rules. Working knowledge of basic economic principles sufficient to allow cost/benefit analysis to be part of decision making process.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Analyzes and resolves marine engineering or operating problems in any of several marine categories by evaluating data pertinent to the specific problems. Evaluates data as to scope, effect on existing programs, economic values,long range panning and budgetary considerations. Acts as an onsite inspector as required. Inspects various marine vessels, preparing detailed work scopes for accomplishment during scheduled refits. Recommends new operating methods or physical modifications to improve existing marine craft and dockside facilities. Estimates costs, prepares justifications and completes expenditure requests as required. Plans and schedules work in advance for marine design projects and maintenance and repair programs. Brings all elements of a marine construction project together in the field, and takes corrective action as required to make certain that all elements proceed satisfactorily on schedule within the money and time allowed. Inspects repair work in progress as well as sea trialing the vessel prior to and upon completion of repairs to ensure adequacy of the work within schedule and budge. Directs work of others when assigned. Checks that status and operating reports are written according to established methods of good representation. Makes recommendations for further study or report changes.
