Location: Saudi Arabia POSITION DESCRIPTON: The applicant will be expected to take a leadership role in defining approaches to solve problems and to lead longer term technology programs in integrated geochemical and basin modeling studies within a small team environment. Will work with others in the organization to suggest and develop enhancements to current basin modeling technologies and approaches. Work with the team to design and conduct regional and/or detailed local studies integrating the interpretation of well logs, gravity, magnetic, geochemistry data, temperature data, core descriptions and geophysical data to develop basin models that will be used to guide Saudi Aramco Exploration and Development programs. Calculate hydrocarbon expulsion volumes, based on source rock quality and thickness estimates, and development of advanced reservoir quality prediction tools, including diagenetic models of cementation. Model the thermal history of the basin to predict maturation of source rocks and timing of expulsion. Conduct hydrocarbon migration path studies to identify favorable prospects. Collect, organize and identify existing geochemical data and formulate recommendations for future analysis programs. Write concise technical reports, memos and presentations quickly and accurately. Be a mentor to young professionals.
SELECTION CRITERIA: Candidate should hold an advanced degree in geology or a closely related subject (e.g., physics or chemistry), with a PhD degree being highly preferred. Applicant should have wide experience in exploration geology or reservoir characterization with a focus on Basin Modeling, geochemistry and integrated regional studies and/or prospect development. Excellent communication and presentation skills, both oral and written are essential. Proficiency is required in Basin Modeling software, geochemical analysis techniques and methods. Thorough knowledge of risking petroleum system components, timing, maturation and migration modeling is needed, as is an in-depth understanding of fluid properties, particularly gas condensate and volatile oil classifications. Candidate must have expertise in integrated geological studies, prospect generation and analysis. Familiarity with one or more of the following specializations is desired; gravity and magnetic data interpretation regional tectonics, structural geology, basin modeling, geochemistry, sedimentology and/or sequence stratigraphy. It would be expected that the candidate would have 10 years or more combined experience in the oil industry and/or in academia related to the application of geological prediction and modeling activities, with at least 5-10 years devoted primarily to research and development. Excellence in research will be evidenced by the candidate's publications, invited presentations, patents, professional awards and honors, and professional society activities.
COMMENTS: The Saudi Aramco EXPEC Advanced Research Center (EXPEC ARC) provides an unrivalled environment for creativity and innovation in the upstream sector by creating new opportunities to find, develop, and produce hydrocarbon resources, developing cost-effective solutions to meet Saudi Aramco's unique upstream technological needs. It offers the successful applicant a unique workplace to further expand technical and professional skills underpinned by a strong commitment to training and personal development.
