Summary
Analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains construction equipment.
Essential Functions
Analyzes and repairs malfunctions; repairs, rebuilds and maintains construction equipment such as hydraulic and mechanical cranes, scrapers, backhoe, motorgraders, bulldozers, front end loaders, sidebooms, tractor-trailers, water and vac trucks, etc. Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles, repairs and reassembles equipment using hoists, handtools and pneumatic and electric tools. May work on engines, structural systems, hydraulic and electrical systems and subassemblies such as transmissions and differentials. Tests overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency. May supervise skilled labor helpers engaged in assisting the mechanic in the disassembly, cleaning and assembly of equipment. May perform duties in shop or in field as necessary.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
Minimum of five (5) years experience as a heavy duty mechanic in a heavy equipment dealership or industrial equipment maintenance shop. Arctic experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
MOBILITY: Must be able to climb on equipment to access all systems and assemblies and access equipment in field under severe arctic conditions.
HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms and be able to hear audible signs of malfunctioning equipment.
VISUAL ACUITY: Must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner.
LIFTING: Must be able to routinely lift up to 70 lb.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must display ability to read and understand job descriptions, safety manuals and safety and warning signs. Must be able to read and fill out hiring documents and forms. Must display sufficient oral communication skills to be able to give and receive oral safety warnings and instructions and task assignments.

Will own and be equipped with the tools on the attached list.
