Summary
Installs, maintains and repairs electrical systems, equipment, wiring and controls in a petrochemical environment.
Essential Functions
Responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation and construction of industrial electrical equipment and systems through the proper use of standard wire, conduit, fittings and hardware commonly found in petrochemical facilities. Must have the ability to read and understand drawings, schematics, and specifications. Will be required to bend, cut, thread and install conduit; install and terminate wiring; check and troubleshoot electric circuits, electrical devices and machinery.
Responsible for use and care of the tools and equipment commonly employed in industrial construction such as hydraulic/electric benders, knockout punch sets, cable puller, meggers, high-pot equipment, volt meters, multi-testers and ammeters. Accountable for testing, troubleshooting, setting and calibrating power distribution systems, working with protective relaying and motor control circuits. Must be able to set and coordinate overcurrent protective devices, size feeder circuits and work on systems up to and including 13.8 KV.
Routinely performs safety and productivity observations; shop, field, and vehicle inspections; and is required to attend various components of technical, developmental and safety training.
Must demonstrate support for the company's environmental management system objectives.
Qualifications
Must possess a working knowledge of the National Electric Code and an understanding of electrical circuits including the operation and function of typical electrical devices and machinery such as solenoids, relays, motors, transformers, switches, motor control centers, generators, batteries and lighting systems. Must have experience working in Class One, Division I & II areas and understand Lock-out/Tag-out procedures.
Must possess an Alaska State Fitness Certificate as a Journeyman Electrician and must have working knowledge of Industrial Electrical Construction and/or Maintenance practices.
Must be able to work as part of a team; communicate effectively with fellow workers and alternate; and demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures. Driver’s license required.
Note: Skills tests may be required of new hires to demonstrate core proficiencies, or of existing employees to advance to a new job level.

MOBILITY: Employee frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Must be able to access all areas described in above job description.
FINE MOTOR SKILLS: Frequently required to use hands and fingers with sufficient dexterity to perform close, exacting and repetitive tasks.
HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.
VISUAL ACUITY: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Vision must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner; to distinguish color-coded wiring; and to read blueprints, shop drawings and schematics.
LIFTING: The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must display ability to read and understand job descriptions, safety/technical manuals and safety/warning signs. Must display sufficient oral communication skills to be able to give and receive oral safety warnings, instructions, and task assignments.
ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to severe arctic weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, confined spaces, and the risk of electrical shock. May be required to work with toxic or caustic chemicals
