Summary
Installs instrument loop components such as pipe, fittings, tubing, valves and instruments.
Essential Functions
Installs and tests pipe, fittings, tubing, valves and instruments according to P&ID's, instrument location drawings, installation details, vendor data and specifications.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
A journeyman instrument fitter should possess a general knowledge of the ISA standards. Show a basic understanding and knowledge of the functional purpose of the various components of an instrument loop such as transmitters, I/P converters, orifice plates flow nozzles, level indicators, etc.
Have thorough knowledge of the various sizes and grades of standard materials employed in an instrument control loop or to connect an instrument to a process such as tubing, fittings, valves, tee’s, tray, etc.
Demonstrate the ability to properly use and care for the tools and equipment commonly used on an industrial project such as threading machines and bandsaws. Demonstrate a proficiency in measuring, cutting, threading, bending, installing.
Minimum of five (5) years experience in industrial instrumentation, petrochemical or oilfield and arctic experience preferred.

MOBILITY: Employee frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Must be able to access all process areas of a petrochemical facility, including climbing scaffolding and ladders. Depending upon assignment, work may involve hard physical labor.
HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms and warnings.
VISUAL ACUITY: Vision must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner, and be able to correctly interpret control panel alarms.
LIFTING: The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 lbs.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must display ability to read and understand job descriptions, safety/technical manuals and safety/warning signs. Must display sufficient oral communication skills to be able to give and receive oral safety warnings, instructions, and task assignments.
ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to severe arctic weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, confined spaces, and the risk of electrical shock. May be required to work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
