Our client based in Australia requires a staff Senior Exploration Geologist to join their Geoscience & New Ventures Department. Position Purpose To perform unaided, responsible and varied exploration assignments requiring familiarity with a wide range of Geoscience techniques in the identification, resource and risk assessment of the economic hydrocarbon potential of plays, prospects, and leads in area of responsibility. To mature leads to drillable status and evaluate post drill results to upgrade the assessment of prospectively, risk and uncertainty. Key Accountabilities within assigned area of responsibility; To conduct regional geoscientific studies to identify the hydrocarbon prospectively and plays To identify all economic prospects and leads To provide an unbiased assessment of the undiscovered resource potential and technical risk for each play, prospect lead within an up-to-date Prospect and Lead Inventory To undertake geoscientific studies to address, quantify and mitigate the critical technical risk(s) To participate in Company Peer Review and related processes To develop and prepare drilling and evaluation proposals for exploration and appraisal wells To monitor drilling results and assist in making operational recommendations concerning well evaluation To review post-drill results and update perceptions of prospectively, potential and risk using company procedures and processes To apply company standard file and archiving standards, processes and procedures to project files for archiving by Technical Assistants To present and report the results of work to peers and Management or Joint Venture parties To instruct, mentor and supervise less experienced staff To carryout other duties as required at the direction of Exploration Supervisor May be required to transfer to or to assist other project groups, including groups with development / exploitation focus, for short to mid term assignments, to meet Company needs To identify, assess and control hazards and effectively implement all relevant company Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures To actively and effectively apply Environmental Policies, Code of Environmental Practice and Environmental Guidelines, and to ensure that the actions of employees are in accordance with such documentation
Honours BSc degree or higher is essential Required Experience A broad knowledge of the principles and practices of basin and play analysis and prospect generation, gained through minimum of 5 years of industry experience demonstrated industry experience in hydrocarbon exploration prospectively analysis, play analysis and prospect generation and a clear understanding of business issues Good understanding of exploration risk and uncertainty assessment principles and practice Relevant Enabling Competencies Building Positive Working Relationships Project Management Work Standards Contributing to Team Success Continuous learning and improvement Key Internal Relationships/Requires active collaboration with Technical Support staff, and related workgroups, committees etc Peers Geoscience Support - Data Management Co-ordinator Portfolio Operations Geology, Operations Geophysics, Petrophysics, Biostratigraphy Chief Geologist, Chief Geophysicist and other functions
