Duties:
Reporting to the Manager, Business and Technology, the Business Development & Investment Attraction Officer will be responsible for:
identifying, developing, managing and evaluating industrial development opportunities arising from the development of Nova Scotia's onshore and offshore energy resources;
identifying, developing and implementing strategies for direct and indirect industrial development, identifying potential investment attraction opportunities and devise methods for attracting investment to the Province from external markets, through joint venture partnerships and/or other forms of business arrangements.
The officer will be responsible for remaining aware of current trends in energy research and development commercialization and market trends in technology applications and to become familiar with various research support programs available through private and public sector sources, and recommend appropriate leveraged investment opportunities. S/he is expected to build a network of private and public sector contacts, and will also be responsible for building relationships between the Department and community groups such as Regional Development Authorities (RDA's), Chambers of Commence, and Municipalities and help them understand potential commercial opportunities related to onshore and offshore energy development.
Qualifications:
Minimum Bachelors Degree in Commerce or related discipline plus one year directly related experience. Preference will be given to further education and pay is commensurate to additional related experience.
The incumbent must have a demonstrated ability to work with senior executives from both public and private sectors. Possess a working knowledge of the various levels of government and the local business community and industry associations related to the petroleum sector, along with a working knowledge of business counselling and community development techniques.
Experience in investment attraction is required along with experience in one or more industrial/business settings related to aspects of the energy sector, including on/offshore petroleum developments and/or gas transmission and distribution and/or petrochemical industry, or renewable energy.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills is essential. Be computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software. This position requires someone with analytical skills in assessing business and investment opportunities; self-motivation, sound judgement and problem solving capabilities. S/he must be able to work independently, and in teams, with minimal day to day supervision.
Classification Level: PR 5 - 13
Salary Range: $37,249 - $62,732
