Job descriptionMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
To provide multi-disciplinary Engineering Design support and Consultancy services to Offshore, Onshore and Major Projects Departments in addition to all offshore production facilities.
Exercise Technical Authority / provide specialist advice in the areas of Design / Engineering of offshore structure.
Assist the management in the evaluation and recommendation of new projects for implementation on techno-economic merits.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
The incumbent’s main function will be to protect the company’s commercial position in respect to claims from the Construction/EPC Contractor and assist where required in the implementation of the management of the change process at the Ras Laffan site. Specifically the incumbent will:
- Assist the management on project portfolio selection through technical-economic analysis to facilitate management decisions and authorizations
- Support Asset holders in the preparation of Statement of Requirements (SOR) to define new projects and co-ordinate with other specialist engineers to develop cost effective, safe and fit-for-purpose design solutions to meet project requirements.
- Carryout conceptual designs and feasibility studies for new projects through identification of all feasible options and carrying out techno-economic evaluations for the selection of optimized engineering design solution. These apply to plant expansions and new projects in current operating areas and new developments.
- Recommend, establish and maintain engineering codes, standards and specifications for corporate use.
- Provide technical audit assistance as necessary for new projects and existing facilities in maintaining design quality standards through verification of compliance with the established codes and standards.
- Provide specialist advice to project departments on major technical issues that may arise during Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and Engineering, Procurement, Installation and Commissioning (EPIC) phases.
- Carryout global structural studies for the company’s facilities such as integrity assessment and provide mitigation actions when necessary.
- Assist in the evaluation of the capabilities of new contractors in carrying out engineering design / supply equipment to the company and recommend as appropriate for necessary inclusion in the company’s approved list.
Requirements- Graduate Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering discipline from a recognized University and preferably with a membership in a recognized Professional society.
- Fluent in English oral and written communication.
- Computer literate with proven skill in using relevant technical computer software / analysis programs
- In order to provide the expert technical advice required from this position, a minimum of 20 years of Offshore
Consultancy experience in the areas of design / analysis, conceptual studies, detailed engineering, cost estimations, trouble-shooting and standardization activities is required.
- Work experience with consultancy background is essential.
Work experience shall essentially include:
- Feasibility studies, FEED and Detailed Engineering / Cost estimate support for major project proposals
- Detailed design of sub-sea and topside structures
- Review of engineering packages provided by contractors
- Preparation of structural technical specifications i.e. design, fabrication, installation etc.
- Good knowledge in the selection of materials used for different parts of the structures
- Hands on experience in the use of structural software’s such as SACS, SESAM.
- Adequate working knowledge of international codes and standards such as API, AISC, DNV etc.
- Cost, time and resource planning, scheduling and control and Engineering coordination
- Procurement Engineering including technical evaluation and approval of vendor design
- Additional experience in integrity of structures is preferred
- Work experience in multi disciplinary project
- Work experience in a multi disciplinary project environment in Gulf Region is preferable to be able to appreciate the local environment and applicable engineering practices.
- A minimum of 10 years in a supervisory position leading relevant design efforts on projects is preferred.
- Additional exposure if any to construction and inspection of Oil & Gas installations is preferred.
