An exciting and challenging opportunities currently exist at growth oriented Plains Exploration & Production Company (PXP) in the San Joaquin Valley, California area for the below listed positions. PXP is an independent oil & gas company primarily engaged in the upstream activities of acquiring, exploiting, developing, and producing oil & gas in its core areas of operation: onshore and offshore California, Texas, and the Gulf Coast region of the United States.
We are currently recruiting for the following position at our Bakersfield location.
Geologist
Responsibilities:
Complete reservoir descriptions of oil and gas reservoirs. Determine original and current oil and gas in place. The geologist must demonstrate knowledge of sedimentary and structural geology concepts. Independently or with some supervision, the geologist must have the ability to accurately:
Correlate well logs
Construct relevant structure and isopach maps
Create cross sections to illustrate key concepts
The geologist is part of the team responsible for generating new well drilling locations and primary, secondary and enhanced recovery projects
The geologist must integrate geologic, engineering, and operations data to evaluate and improve existing secondary and enhanced recovery projects. The result of such work will be well recompletions and workovers, and modifications to water and steam injection.
The geologist may be called upon to coordinate and supervise open hole or cased hole logging operations and supervise geological aspects of horizontal or highly deviated well drilling operations.
Education and Experience:
Minimum B.S. or M.S. Degree in Geology or Geological Engineering. Minimum 2 years California experience preferred. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
Experience using geological mapping software is required. Strong communication skills and the ability to function in a multidisciplinary team are essential.
