Reporting to the Senior Manager, Internal Audit, you will be responsible for conducting financial, compliance and operational assessments of Talisman's activities.
Your primary responsibilities will include the following:
Examining and evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of Talisman's system of internal control and the quality of performance in carrying out assigned responsibilities.
Performing a key role in the overall risk assessment and identifying complex and sensitive audit issues in both domestic and international arenas.
Undertaking comprehensive planning and risk assessments relating to each assignment to ensure identification of potential business risks.
Leading and executing audit programs, providing innovative alternatives and recommendations, following up and helping to implement change.
Conducting oral or written presentations to management during and at the conclusion of each audit review, discussing deficiencies, and suggesting improvements in operations and reductions in cost.
Surveying functions and activities in assigned areas to determine the nature of its operations and the adequacy of the system of controls to achieve established objectives.
Qualifications:
A strong understanding of the risks and challenges that face an international upstream oil and gas company are key to this role. Your success stems from your ability to plan and conduct risk assessments, as well as your thorough understanding of control models. Your knowledge of data analysis techniques provides value-added benefits to the functional groups in meeting their business objectives. Experience working on international audits (i.e. UK, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Middle East) would be desirable.
As the ideal candidate, you will have 6+ years of progressively responsible business experience in the oil and gas industry complemented by a recognized accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA). A CIA, MBA or P.Eng. in conjunction with a financial designation, is a definite asset. Your strong business acumen will include exposure to a variety of functional areas including finance, engineering and project management, marketing, information systems and planning.
Other qualifications include:
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Strong interpersonal skills including the proven ability to interact effectively with different functional areas of Talisman and with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Exceptional time management, analytical and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to come up with innovative solutions and respond positively to demanding situations.
Excellent working knowledge of the MS office suite and audit software.
International travel is required and could account for 25-40% of this position. Typical assignments range from 2 to 3 weeks.
