Location:
Saudi Arabia
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Ph.D. Chemical Engineering
Experience: 5+ years of experience related to fundamental and applied fuel combustion research. Familiarity with advanced numerical techniques for chemical mechanism development and reduction. Ability to supervise an experimental program utilizing combustion equipment (such as CFR, rapid compression machine (RCM), constant volume chamber, shock tubes, etc.) to establish reaction parameters and to validate developed mechanisms. Knowledge of latest developments in incumbent s field. Interpersonal and communication skills.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The R&D Division of Saudi Aramco s Research & Development Center is establishing an ambitious research program in the area of combustion and fuel formulation. The program is aiming at developing advanced oil-based fuel formulations for next generation combustion engines. One of the most important objectives of this program is to establish an in-house capability for development and evaluation of chemical mechanisms for representative species and surrogates of oil-based transportation fuels, and to use these mechanisms to develop reliable chemical models for kinetically-controlled combustion modes (such as HCCI). To achieve this objective, the Division is putting in place sophisticated experimental and computational capabilities, and at the same time building a team of experimentalists, model developers, and fuel chemists specializing in the hydrocarbon chemical mechanism development area. As part of this team, we are seeking to hire a senior research engineer or scientist who has at least 5 years of research experience in this area. The candidate s work should have included development of chemical kinetic mechanisms for hydrocarbon species, validation of developed mechanisms at wide engine operation range, and implementation of advanced numerical techniques to reduce complex mechanisms. The person should be familiar with both experimental methods and computational chemistry techniques to obtain needed reaction parameters.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Build and maintain a database of available chemical mechanisms of hydrocarbon species and identify areas of deficiencies in these mechanisms in the context of kinetically-controlled combustion modes. Propose, initiate, and lead an activity that addresses key deficiencies in these mechanisms. Work closely with experimentalists in the Division to develop an appropriate experimental program to support the mechanism development activity.
Establish a strong contact and collaboration with outside researchers in incumbent s field.
Implement, evaluate and possibly develop reduction techniques to simplify complex mechanisms.
Identify requirements and detailed specifications of needed computational tools and capabilities for research activity.
Work closely and collaboratively with other members of the technical and administrative staff.
Contribute technical consultation, expertise or work to other projects within the R&D Center or other departments as needed.
Write technical reports, papers, and patent applications as appropriate.
Provide periodic progress reports and presentations to the management.
Mentor and oversee development of Saudi Arab staff.
