$85,000/120,000 Large profitable SW LA refinery owned by multiplant refiner seeks a Senior Corrosion Engineer. Explanation of Job Duties: • Complete failure analyses on systems and components to determine root causes for failures and recommend improvements to eliminate future failures. • Perform life cycle cost analysis on metallurgy of process equipment and piping systems and provide recommendations to management on options. • Provide technical input to strategies for maintenance, repair, and r eplacement specifications. • Identify and implement improvement ideas to improve operational performance, increase availability, and reduce maintenance costs. • Provide technical input to capital projects and make metallurgy recommendations for new construction. • Evaluate crude oil assays and make recommendations for processing based on refinery metallurgy. • Evaluate effectiveness of corrosion inhibitor programs and make recommendations to management based on findings. • Project corrosion rates for process equipment and piping systems based on process conditions. • Provide technical support to refinery maintenance department and make repair recommendations to insure mechanical integrity and reliability. • Review and approve welding procedures for refinery process equipment fabrication and repairs. • Track corrosion rates of critical process equipment and piping systems and make metallurgy upgrades recommendations as economically justified. • Mentor and provide technical training for junior metallurgist, reliability engineers and mechanical inspectors on metallurgy and corrosion issues. • Fitness for service evaluation of existing refinery process equipment and piping systems. Minimum Qualifications: Job Requirements: • B.S. Degree in Metallurgy Engineering, Materials Science, or Materials Engineering preferred. Other degrees with appropriate experience will be considered. • 15 to 20 years of refinery metallurgy or corrosion engineering experience • Intimate working knowledge or refinery processes and associated corrosion and environmental cracking mechanisms • Experience with monitoring and optimizing corrosion inhibitor processes • Experience in establishing critical process variables to protect fixed equipment and process piping • Working knowledge of industrial coating systems • Comprehensive knowledge of ASTM standards for refinery metallurgy and latest alloys used in the refinery industry • Experienced in leading and participating in root cause failure analysis • Comprehensive knowledge of process equipment NDE and testing techniques • Experienced in static process equipment weld repair and post weld heat treat techniques • Experience in evaluating crude oil assays and projecting corrosion effect as a result of processing specifically with respect to sulfur and napthenic acid content • Experience with cathodic protection systems • Experience with fitness for service evaluation of existing equipment
