Reporting To: Supervisor, Systems Engineering
Location/Environment: Dubai / (Office based but frequent offshore site visits)
Qualifications: BS or BE degree in Electrical Engineering (minimum). Preferably Chartered/Professional Engineer
15+ years' experience in electrical design and installation including at least 8 years' in the oil development or gas industry, Familiarization with relay logic, programmable logical control equipment (PLC), emergency shutdown systems, fire & gas systems and distributed control systems (DCS) is preferred
Working knowledge and experience in offshore oil & gas industry codes, specifications and practices (HSE, API, NFPA, ISA, IEC etc.). Familiar with Process Safety Management and HAZOP / SIL study
Must be comfortable communicating with and have an ability to influence all levels of the organization with very good English written and verbal communication skills
Role: Analyses, existing or proposed electrical systems for onshore plant and offshore production facilities, and prepares or reviews electrical engineering design work connected with minor and major capital projects and expense items, for modifications and alterations to existing facilities or installation of new equipment and facilities, either in-house, or through outside contractors. Studies and analyses complex or recurring problems relating to electrical systems and recommends appropriate solutions
Electrical equipment and systems include power generation, distribution, fire suppression and UPS equipment and associated control gear
Projects depending upon their value/nature may be implemented internally or externally. Ensures that all projects are implemented in accordance with the company's health, safety and environment policies and procedures
Main Duties: ƒÃ Maintains familiarity with all Company offshore power supply, power generation and distribution systems, including switch gear, turbine and engine driven generators, large electric motors and cabling
ƒÃ Provides the company with expert technical advice to Management for electrical engineering matters as required. Is responsible for developing, maintaining and upgrading the Company's electrical standards and philosophies. Troubleshoots complex or recurring electrical problems and recommends sound and cost effective solutions as the problems arise
ƒÃ Work in cross-functional teams to provide appropriate project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, coordination, management, and implementation within regulatory and company policy compliance. Presents proposals to Management for decision and approval
ƒÃ Maintains and updates electrical engineering drawings, standards and specifications. Provides electrical support for the UPS system
ƒÃ Responsible for the development and implementation of various systems engineering project particularly when they have a significant electrical engineering component
ƒÃ Ensures all drawings, plans, manuals and data books are up-to-date and "as built", and directs draughtsmen to carry out all corrections to drawings to reflect any alternations, modifications and additions to electrical systems and components
ƒÃ Carries out various duties related to capital investment projects and expense items for minor electrical modifications, improvements and alterations to existing electrical equipment to be executed internally. Includes conducting feasibility studies, developing cost estimates in conjunction with other engineering or finance staff, personally preparing conceptual or detailed designs or reviewing vendors' final design drawings for approved projects, preparing Capital Authorization Requests (AFE's) for approval, preparing bills of materials, participating in preparing purchase orders, following up on quotations, conducting technical bid analyses, answering queries from vendors and recommending suppliers or contractors
ƒÃ Supervises the implementation of minor electrical modifications and improvement projects carried out in-house to ensure execution and completion to established Company standards and specifications. Performs project engineering duties (including cost control, scheduling, contract preparation and administration,) when assigned as the project lead engineer
ƒÃ Carries out various other duties related to major capital investment projects and expense items for modification and improvements to existing facilities or installation of new facilities to be executed by outside contractors. Includes participating in technical bid analyses, reviewing design drawings submitted by contractors and proposing amendments as necessary, specifying materials to be used, and supervising the execution of work to ensure compliance with drawings and Company specifications and standards, and the use of prescribed materials. Will attend site meetings with contractors as necessary
ƒÃ Reviews and checks payment certificates submitted by contractors ensure compliance with work executed, makes necessary corrections, and submits to supervisor for endorsement and payment processing
ƒÃ Stays abreast of state-of-the art developments in the electrical engineering discipline, and provides regular information to supervisor regarding new techniques, equipment and materials, which may benefit the Company and its operations
ƒÃ Maintains and updates electrical engineering standards and specifications on a regular basis
ƒÃ Liaises with draftsmen in the Engineering Drafting Unit to produce sketches and "detailed" electrical engineering drawings
ƒÃ Participates as a team member in Process Safety and Environment Information maintenance and Cause & Effect Chart function testing programs
ƒÃ Participate in Process Hazards Analysis reviews on assigned platforms as part of the ongoing Process Safety Management Program
ƒÃ Mentoring junior engineers
ƒÃ Carryout document/drawings update as per the CAF and project management process
ƒÃ Participates or conducts training for offshore personnel on the upgraded or newly installed systems
ƒÃ Provides Emergency Assistance to offshore operations for any emergency situation or shutdowns offshore
ƒÃ Technical Authority for the Electrical related issues
ƒÃ Ensures that the above functions are performed in accordance with the company¡¦s health, safety and environment policies and procedures. And the offshore oil & gas industry codes, specifications and practices (e.g. HSE, NEC, IEC, API, NFPA, ISA, etc.) are followed
