Financial Analyst - Forecasting & Analysis

POSITION SUMMARY

BHPBilliton’s Global Petroleum Controllers team is responsible for external reporting, systems development, process improvement, financial analysis, and governance activities for Petroleum worldwide. In addition, the group develops and delivers Petroleum’s actual and forecast reporting to the Petroleum Exco and Corporate. The team works directly with the President and CFO of Petroleum, regional Asset Teams, regional support groups, and the global Shared Business Services organization to deliver on these reporting and stewardship objectives.

The Financial Analyst - Forecasting & Analysis provides support to the Senior Financial Analyst and Finance Lead - Management Reporting Forecasting & Analysis in the overall management of Petroleum’s Forecasting process. This position must gain an understanding of Petroleum’s global business and interface effectively with the business partners, Petroleum Planning group, and Corporate in delivering quality outputs in an efficient manner.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Finance Lead - Management Reporting.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Actively participate in compliance with HSEC goals and objectives for BHPB Petroleum.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS

The Financial Analyst - Forecasting & Analysis must be willing to share accountability for the quality, timeliness and relevance of Petroleum’s management reporting and forecasting. This individual must work well under pressure and tight deadlines and via their strong work ethic should seek to contribute to the effectiveness of the team. The individual must have an attention to detail and a willingness to be hands on in the forecasting process. The successful candidate must have highly developed communications skills as a key focus of the role is interaction with various stakeholders within BHP Billiton.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

* Possess an undergraduate degree in business, finance or accounting.
* At least three years experience in financial analysis, management accounting or financial accounting.
* Experience using SAP and EDW is strongly preferred.
* Valuations experience and exposure to economic models would be highly regarded.
* Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to communicate to senior levels of management.
* Extensive experience with the Microsoft Office suite of applications particularly Excel and Powerpoint.
* Customer focus.
* Good problem-solving skills - analysis and judgment.
* CPA and/or MBA is also preferred.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Monthly Forecast:

Work closely with Finance Lead - Management Reporting in the delivery of Petroleum’s monthly forecast process:

* Overseeing Petroleum’s central forecasting model
* Prepare summary financial reports for review.
* Prepare analysis and commentary for current vs previous forecast.
* Input to preparation of Petroleum GMC Report summary

Five-Year Plan and Budget:

Work closely with Finance Lead - Management Reporting in the delivery of Petroleum’s five-year plan:

* Coordinate load of Asset & Group forecast files to Petroleum Data Warehouse.
* Perform initial validation of asset team data in Petroleum Data Warehouse.
* Prepare summary financial reports for review.
* Prepare analysis and commentary.
* Prepare Exchange Rate sensitivity and Short Term Incentives data.
* Input to preparation of Petroleum corporate reporting requirements
* Coordinate system and process timelines for circulation to business partners.
* Progress system and reporting issues with data warehouse team.

Quarterly Scorecards / KPI’s:

* Initial review and update of the Petroleum balanced scorecards.

Other:

* Involvement in preparation of various ad-hoc presentations for management including but not limited to:
* Petroleum Benchmarking Presentation.
* CSG Appraisal Review.
* Cost Analysis presentations.

Ad-hoc Forecasts

* Assist in driving consistency between actuals and forecasting processes.
* Improve ease of reporting from Petroleum Data Warehouse.
* Provide ad-hoc assistance and reports to Corporate Tax, Petroleum M&A and Petroleum Planning group
