As part of BHP Billiton’s Stainless Steel Material’s Group, Nickel West is the world’s third largest producer of nickel-in-concentrate, providing 16% of global production. Nickel West comprises five outstanding Western Australian-based assets, in terms of operating capability, scale, environmental standards, diversity, technology and development projects.
The Ravensthorpe Nickel Operation is a A$2.8 billion project located in the South coastal region of Western Australia, just 180kms from Esperance. The project, now operational and currently in ramp up stage, will include a new mine and processing facility, producing a mixed nickel and cobalt hydroxide intermediate product using state of the art technology. The operation offers employees a unique opportunity of working in a new, innovative and cutting edge operation balanced with a choice of FIFO or a seaside lifestyle in the popular and picturesque seaside township.
Think Opportunity
We are currently seeking to add to our Utilities Maintenance team with a professional & highly competent Reliability/ Maintenance Engineer. Reporting to the Utilities Maintenance Superintendent, you will be responsible for providing reliability and engineering support for this world class project. This position will focus on improving equipment availability in order to achieve the strategic plans and objectives of the business.

You will have the skills to coordinate plant condition monitoring and inspection programmes, making full use of available advances in Risk Based Integrity management systems and standards. You will believe that you are able to spearhead mechanical reliability and maintenance improvement.
If you are able to make recommendations for modifications for improving plant availability and reliability, then this is the position that will challenge your technical expertise and management skills.
Think Requirements
You will possess solid problem solving techniques with an emphasis on developing Reliability Improvement Projects which will optimise reliability in the Utilities Power, Water Acid and Sulphur Plants at RNO to meet production requirements whilst meeting standards for environment, health and safety, quality, cost control and integrity.
The successful candidate will be tertiary qualified in Mechanical/Materials/Electrical Engineering or equivalent and demonstrate highly developed technical skills, including a thorough understanding of maintenance requirements and problem solving, coupled with the ability to identify equipment problems and develop potential solutions complete with estimates of the cost, benefits and risks of each solution.
Due to the very nature of this role, experience in power generation, sulphuric acid plants and/or a continuos hydrometallurgical plant will be considered highly advantageous.
