Position Synopsis
This position provides financial oversight of the accounting and reporting of income taxes and indirect taxes for the Petroleum Group Australia/Asia region assets. The scope of this position will include management over core financial processes related to income tax and indirect taxes for those assets, including responsibility for:
* SOX certification of all controls relating to BHPB Petroleum Finance direct and indirect tax swim lanes,
* Accurate financial reporting of direct and indirect tax P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow items in accordance with BHPB tax and accounting policies,
* Accurate modelling / forecasting of direct and indirect tax expenditure and cash flow for short and medium term business planning/budget purposes,
* Review and accounting signoff for quarterly and annual Income and PRRT returns in support of Group Tax lodgement of returns,
* Adherence to indirect tax compliance obligations for GST, FBT, Withholding Tax, Fuel Tax Credit Schemes and other indirect taxes,
* Overview of Transfer Pricing and Withholding Tax activities of assets within the region,
* Provision of general indirect tax advice to the Business for ongoing operations and proposed capital projects; and
* Representing the company in local interaction with tax offices, JVP’s and Operator’s (for non op assets), as directed by senior management.
You will liaise directly with Group Tax, Global Business Services, the Manager of Petroleum Tax as well as senior members of Petroleum management in the regional assets.
The position reports to the Manager of Petroleum Tax (Houston) and has three positions reporting to it (two Senior Tax Analysts and one Tax Accountant).
Skills and Experience
This key position within Petroleum Finance will require a tertiary qualified professional in Accounting, Commerce or Business, with additional CA or CPA qualifications. You will bring to the position significant experience in tax compliance and accounting in the resource industry, preferably upstream Oil & Gas. You will have exposure to international tax and accounting, strong knowledge of applicable accounting standards and heavy exposure to corporate income tax, PRRT and other indirect taxes in Australia.
As the Finance Lead, you will demonstrate highly effective communication, a team oriented flexibility in your approach, along with proven high attention to detail. Computing skills incorporating proficiency with SAP R/3 and electronic document management systems are preferred.
