POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The applicant will be expected to take a leadership role in defining approaches to solve problems and to lead longer term technology programs in quantitative geological studies within a small team environment. Will work with the team to design and conduct regional and field-scale modeling studies that seek to quantitatively model and predict reservoir quality in the subsurface. Such modeling efforts should include consideration of both depositional and diagenetic factors that control reservoir quality. Apply state of the art computer-based methods to solving geological problems, and take a leadership role in defining and developing new approaches these geological problems. Develop techniques for the prediction of pore types and permeability in carbonate reservoirs. Develop quantitative methods to better delineate and predict flow units in the subsurface. Utilize a wide spectrum of software on both a UNIX and PC platform to quantitatively evaluate and predict reservoir quality, including, but not limited to, Gocad, OpenWorks, Geolog, and other software applications. Be familiar with a variety of forward stratigraphic or process modeling techniques and applications. Generate new ideas and projects, and contribute substantially to existing research and development efforts. Be a mentor to young professionals in the organization. Communicate and steer research in various international R&D organizations.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Candidate should hold an advanced degree in geology or a closely related subject (e.g., physics or chemistry), with a PhD degree being highly preferred. Applicant should have wide experience in exploration geology or reservoir characterization with a focus on 3D Modeling and integrated regional and reservoir studies. Candidate should be able to provide sedimentologic and sequence stratigraphic support for exploration and development programs within Saudi Aramco, and be able to contribute to core, petrographic, and SEM studies to determine reservoir geometries, depositional environments, sequence framework, and controls on reservoir quality. Knowledge and experience of sequence stratigraphy, sedimentology, openhole logs and diagenesis is essential; knowledge of basin geochemistry, carbonates, reservoir modeling, seismic interpretation and petrophysics is desirable. Excellent communication and presentation skills, both oral and written, are essential. It would be expected that the candidate would have 10 years or more combined experience in the oil industry and/or in academia related to the application of geological prediction and modeling activities, with at least 5-10 years devoted primarily to research and development. Excellence in research will be evidenced by the candidate s publications, invited presentations, patents, professional awards and honors, and professional society activities.
