POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Research & Development Division is establishing an ambitious research program in the area of combustion and fuel formulation. The program is aiming at developing advanced oil-based fuel formulations for next generation combustion engines. One of the most important objectives of this program is to establish an in-house capability for development and evaluation of chemical mechanisms for representative species and surrogates of oil-based transportation fuels, and to use these mechanisms to develop reliable chemical models for kinetically-controlled combustion modes (such as HCCI). To achieve this objective, the Division is putting in place sophisticated experimental and computational capabilities, and at the same time building a team of experimentalists, model developers, and fuel chemists specializing in the hydrocarbon chemical mechanism development area. As part of this team, we are seeking to hire a recent Ph.D. graduate, preferably with Post-Doc experience, who has completed graduate research in development of hydrocarbon chemical mechanisms using advanced techniques such as quantum mechanics. The incumbent s main role will be to use such advanced techniques to support the chemical mechanism development activity at the Division. Should be familiar with major quantum mechanics DFT and detailed chemistry packages used in this field.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: B.S. Degree in Science/Engineering Discipline as appropriate for the area of expertise for the assigned jobs. Good command of oral and written English. Demonstrated active participation in technical seminars and/or original industrial research.

PREFERRED: Ph.D. in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.

Experience: Seven years experience in a substantive industrial, technological or laboratory area relevant to the jobs assignment. 1-3 years of experience related to chemical mechanism development using quantum calculations. Familiarity with major quantum mechanics DFT and detailed chemistry packages used in incumbent s field. Knowledge of latest developments in this field. Interpersonal and communication skills. Team building and team management skills. Project management skills.


Duties/Responsibilities:

Provides professional advice and assistance in a specialized area of technology such as industrial, analytical or physical chemistry; microbiology; geotechnical or other specialized areas of civil engineering; petroleum or chemical engineering.

Carries out original investigations relating to technical problems outside the scope of available literature.

Keeps current with significant developments in the field of specialization. Is expected to use these in high investigative assignments when applicable.

Visits plants, operating areas or construction sites as required to obtain information pertaining to assigned projects.

Makes comprehensive professional reports of investigations.

Maintains and updates his working knowledge of applicable state-of- the-art laboratory instrumentation.

Serves as a team leader or participates in major investigative projects as assigned.

Performs other miscellaneous related duties as requested.


The successful candidate will be expected to:

Use quantum calculations to support the chemical mechanism development activity at the Division.

Identify requirements and detailed specifications of needed equipment, tools and software for research.

Work closely and collaboratively with other members of the technical and administrative staff.

Contribute technical consultation, expertise or work to other projects within the R&D Center or other departments as needed.

Write technical reports, papers, and patent applications as appropriate.

Provide periodic progress reports and presentations to the management.

Mentor and oversee development of Saudi Arab staff in incumbent s area of specialty.
