Highly successful and rapidly growing independent midstream crude oil transportation and marketing company is seeking to hire a TAX DIRECTOR for their corporate office in Houston, TX.
This client is actively interviewing and is seeking that candidate who wants to make a difference and achieve the highest level of excellence based on their abilities.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensure compliance with all tax and regulatory aspects of large public entity, joint venture partner, general partner and other entities, as applicable
• Develop knowledge of the company and industry in order to identify issues and value-added services.
• Review of U.S. and Canadian federal and state/provincial partnership and corporation returns prepared by outside firms (50+ entities, 40+ states, five provinces)
• Preparation of SFAS 109 provision calculation and disclosures, FIN 48 disclosures, SOX requirements, etc.
• Oversight of groups responsible for property tax, sales and use tax, excise tax and all other transactional taxes and regulatory filings.
• Involvement with other departments concerning tax rebate programs on capital projects, etc.
• Develop automation, where applicable
• Oversight of the process to prepare and submit K-1’s, T-5013’s and NR-4’s.
• Tax planning strategies (including property tax, sales tax, income tax, etc.)
• Advise as to tax implications and/or preferential tax structures of acquisitions, mergers, entity consolidations, etc.
• Consult on applicability of qualifying vs. non-qualifying income
• Stay abreast of recent develo0ments in the tax and MLP space and assess tax payment consequences (i.e. Texas franchise tax, Canadian tax law change for income trusts, etc.)
• Special projects as directed
• Ability work well across functional lines, as there is extensive interaction with various business units
• Involvement with groups such as Coalition of Publicly Traded Partnerships, D&T Webcasts for Tax Executives, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• CPA
• Partnership tax experience a plus
• Minimum of 7 to 10 years tax experience
• Excellent communication, problem solving, analytical and research skills
• Ability to think strategically and multi-task
