Our client has an excellent opportunity available for an experienced Electrical Lead. As the successful candidate, you will provide electrical technical leadership and support. Your expertise will be used to develop the strategies for engineering, contracting, procurement, construction, commissioning and start-up. You will assume ownership for all technical electrical project deliverables and will ensure safe, operable and effective systems are provided with appropriate consideration given to initial capital cost, ongoing operating costs and reliability.
Your specific duties on the Project will include:
-Providing electrical engineering input to the project, especially at early stages, to determine the optimum project design and execution plan.
-Ensuring appropriate attention is paid to capital cost, ongoing operating costs and reliability.
-Ensuring electrical specifications used are suitable for the project.
-Providing technical input to procurement strategies, contracting strategies, review contracts for technical accuracy/suitability and vendor selection for electrical equipment and material.
-Overseeing electrical engineering performed by the Engineering Contractor(s).
-Reviewing electrical equipment documents, including bids, purchase orders and vendor data
-Ensuring interfaces between engineering contractors, construction contractors, commissioning contractors, vendors, utilities, regulatory authorities, and inspection agencies are aligned.
-Reviewing key electrical drawings, load lists, electrical equipment data sheets and studies for suitability and completeness
-Interfacing with the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) and ATCO Electric, to ensure a timely, reliable, and cost effective electrical power supply provided to the facility.
-Providing electrical technical input to hazard assessments and other safety reviews
-Providing electrical technical guidance’s to construction, commissioning, and start-up.
-Assisting Operations to run the facility safety and efficiently
-Providing technical guidance to the electrical team
The position is based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Travel is required up to 25% of the time and will increase significantly during construction and commissioning activities (may be more than 50%).
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
-Designation as a “Professional Engineer” recognized by the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA) or is eligible for designation.
-Project Management (PMP) designation is preferred
-A minimum of 15 years of current and relevant electrical engineering experience, including a minimum of 8 years experience with an owner/operator in oil and gas.
-Previous experience in heavy oil or oil sands would be a definite asset
-Familiarity with electric utilities and utility requirements in Alberta and Canadian Electrical Code
-Knowledge of and practical experience in area classification, low and medium voltage distribution systems, motors, UPS’s, PLC’s, EHT and familiarity with high voltage (260K) substations
-Experience working in a large project multi-discipline environment
-Ability to develop commissioning plans for electrical industrial equipment
-Experience providing technical guidance to engineering contractors
-Willingness and ability to travel regularly to project location.
This position requires the incumbent to operate a vehicle for which a valid driver’s license is required. The final candidate(s) will be required to provide a recent (ie. Issued within previous 4 weeks) original driver’s abstract for a 5 year period, prior to starting work.
