Location: Saudi Arabia POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position provides opportunity for continued advancement of individuals of outstanding technical capability who make substantial and essential contributions on an individual basis. This includes: (1) individuals of broader experience and of demonstrated ability and good judgment, and (2) individuals who are expert in a particular specialized area of petroleum engineering. The increasing size and complexity of Aramco's producing operations and the related petroleum engineering support requires Aramco to have in-house expertise in various specialized areas. The Engineering Advisor, Senior Engineering Advisor and Engineering Consultant positions provide for this expertise at increasing levels of recognized competence and demonstrated ability to communicate with Management and working associates and to convert technical expertise into practical recommendations regarding budget items, operating procedures, etc. Apart from the broader areas of Reservoir, Production and Workover Engineering, specialized areas in which individuals have been previously placed in Advisor and Senior Advisor positions include: Reservoir Simulation, Well Data Base management, Long-Range Planning, Oil Well Corrosion, Artificial Lift and Well Stimulation. Future applications may include such areas as Sand Control, Well Completion and Testing Equipment and Gas Engineering. Advisor and Consultant recommendations have an immediate impact upon operating procedures and new project definitions which often have individual impact in the millions of dollars. These positions will also often head special task forces to solve individual problems. Typically works individually, but may have a small staff as appropriate. Normally reports administratively to a Unit Supervisor or Division Head, but requires minimal supervision beyond agreement on work objectives.
Principal Duties include: Provides expert advice and assistance on operating problems relating to area of expertise Specifies design criteria and relevant operating parameters for development of BI's and/or new projects within area of expertise Participates in project technical reviews and reviews proposals for new or changed operating procedures on incumbent's area of expertise to ensure efficient and economic operations. Conducts economic studies on cost analysis as appropriate to resolve alternative causes of action relative to incumbent's area of expertise. Acts as Task Force Leader as assigned to solve special problems in incumbent's area of expertise. Originates ideas for improvements, develops a basis for required field testing and manager review, analyzes results and recommends new or changed procedures and/or facilities. Makes presentations to Executive Management, to shareholder Program Review, or to various Shareholder Technical Meetings, as appropriate.
SELECTION CRITERIA: 15 years experience in the oil industry, with petroleum or chemical engineering degree. Exposure to project related activities. Should have broad experience in oil and gas reserves estimation and assessment, reservoir development planning, and economic evaluations and risk analysis. Work includes assessing the reserves of new discoveries and conducting commerciality and feasibility studies. The candidate should have experience in conducting studies and analysis on reserves. The candidate should have experience in field developments and economic evaluations.
COMMENTS: Production & Facilities Development Department is one of four departments in Petroleum Engineering business line. The department supports achieving oil and gas production targets and maintaining the maximum sustained capacity. The department is responsible for coordinating Saudi Aramco's annual effort to reassess, update, maintain and keep custody of the oil & gas reserves. This is done through participating in key collaborative petroleum engineering studies (encompassing geology, reservoir development, production and management) using multi-disciplinary teams and through exploration program results and hence new discoveries. The candidate will conduct development plans, commerciality studies and economic evaluations.
Education: B.S. in engineering or equivalent technical field. M.S or PhD is desirable, but not required; intensive industry training including appropriate specialized courses and seminars is expected. Experience: Typically has ten (10) years of related experience including at least the last 5 years in intensive experience in incumbent's area of expertise.
