Location: Saudi Arabia POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Engineer will be working under Northern Area Projects Department / NAOO & BGP Projects Division. Successful candidate will be expected to: Perform complex technical and administrative tasks relative to the Design and coordination of specific disciplines (i.e. specialized controls and instrumentation systems). The Instrumentation Engineer reports to the Senior Project Engineer. Review project proposals, design drawings, equipment specifications and the proposed protection and control schemes for the new engineered equipment & facilities. Participate in the preparation of the detail design packages for plant modification and upgrades. Participate in design review of various phases of the work and perform continuous design review of project proposal and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, specifications. Analyze applicable codes, standards, and project contract documents and monitor construction activities to ensure compliance. Witness, monitor and/or inspect the installation and testing of instrumentation and controls, as required. Monitor and confirm documentation of installation and start-up of control and instrumentation systems, including start-up tests on specialized equipment as specified in the contract documents. Field check installation and location of instrumentation and control panels, PLCs and SCADA systems. Assure compliance with specifications, drawings and approved submittals. Provide recommendation on all instrumentation and control construction work to assure a functionality and final product. Verify equipment settings, alignment, and testing and energization requirements. Witness, monitor and/or review instrumentation calibration tests. Monitor contractors' compliance with approved contractor quality control program and submittals. Make recommendations for improvements to standard construction quality control provisions. Recommend changes to procedures if needed. Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate. Work with vendor technical representatives to resolve equipment technical problems. Lead and recommend new continuous improvement solutions for installations or modifications to improve the newly designed facilities and standardization within specific fields of endeavor. Estimate costs, prepare justifications and complete expenditure requests as required. Support project execution and project proposals and initiate detailed work outline and make decision as to basic processes, and/or equipment. Perform work and or delegate work to other engineers and final development of specialized or technical proposals and studies of proposed projects. Formally design or study the required instrumentation modifications to oil processing and oil handling facilities, residences and utilities. Occasionally called upon to design the instrumentation aspects of new facilities of the type mentioned.
SELECTION CRITERIA: EDUCATION: B.S. (4-year degree) in a technical engineering-related discipline is preferred. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of Nine (9) years with at least five (5) years on site project management. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: A thorough knowledge of the English language. OTHER: Must be familiar with engineering, procurement and construction practices. An in-depth working knowledge of applicable components and instrumentation installation is required.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to read, interpret, verify, and document conformance to the contract documents is required. Ability to perform quantity take-offs and measure quantities in the field. Familiarity with applicable codes and standards. Effective oral and written communication skills. Computer literacy with MS Office Software.
COMMENTS: Northern Area Projects Department is basically involved with various construction projects like refineries, gas plants, terminals, offshore and marine. The Department is located in West Admin Bldg., Ras Tanura, and all Divisions are scattered all over the Kingdom plus several Out-of-Kingdom Chapter-8 assignments.
