ROLE PROFILE:
This position is to provide financial oversight over the accounting and reporting of income taxes and secondary taxes for the Petroleum division. The scope of this position will include management over core financial processes related to income and secondary taxes and act as the senior tax advisor for those assets in North/South America. This position will lead control and audit-related matters and be expected to liaise directly with the Global Controller, Group Tax, Global Shared Services as well as senior members of Petroleum management to ensure that the proper stewardship model is maintained.
This position reports to Manager of Petroleum Tax.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Tax Accounting:
* Review and validate all tax accounting entries/balances
* Review of Deferred Tax Proofs for the entities within the region
* Review of all local and US Income Tax Expense calculations
* Review of all local and US deferred tax proofs and Balance Sheet current and deferred tax balances
* Book yearly tax settlements
* Assist with ad hoc query resolution regarding tax reporting as appropriate
* Review and approve all Master Data changes to ensure that it meets the requirements from a tax perspective
Compliance and Oversight:
* Manage all global supplementary taxes; Value-Added Tax, Petroleum Revenue Tax, excise, property / ad valorem, sales tax, etc.
* Facilitate the embedding of standard finance processes/systems globally within the Petroleum division
* Responsible for the review of all income and secondary tax payments to tax authorities and ensure all payments are timely and accurate and in compliance with local tax regulations and laws
* Manage the interface with Shared Services around accounting for taxes, tax assets classifications and associated processes
* Liaison with Group Tax on the co-ordination of all internal and external audits of income and secondary taxes within the Petroleum division
* Responsible for the complete and accurate reporting of tax balances and movements within the consolidated Petroleum reporting systems (Briefing Papers)
* Responsible for full SOX certification of all financial secondary tax controls and processes owned by the Controller team
* Process Owner for Tax - Prepare and document the process for withholding tax and ensure that it is being complied with by having regular meetings with Shared Services and Supply & Logistics
* Responsible for the review of tax effecting assumptions used in the preparation of Petroleum’s annual budget and five-year-plan and quarterly forecast updates to the plan
* Review of Petroleum’s cash tax forecast
Advisor to Business on Tax-Related Issues:
* Provide guidance to Business Partners, Operation Accountants and Global Controller with regards to Income Tax balances and compliance for all secondary taxes.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
* Master’s degree in Accounting/Finance strongly preferred
* CPA strongly preferred
* A minimum of ten years of professional experience with at least five in a tax capacity
* Exposure to corporate income and other secondary taxes both inside and outside the U.S.
* Have a proven high attention to detail.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
* Superior interpersonal skills to handle various customer and stakeholder groups
* Computing skills incorporating proficiency with GSAP R/3 and Documentum is preferred.
* Oil & Gas industry experience highly regarded.
