Location: Australia BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s mining operations in the spectacular Pilbara region of WA are one of the largest in the world, shipping more than 120Mtpa of iron ore. Our railways, consisting of more than 800km of track, connect our mines in the Pilbara with our shipping facilities in Port Hedland. The heavy haulage rail system, the heaviest in the world, with more than 100 locomotives and around 4,500 carriages, uses state of the art technology across all facets of the operation.
We are now seeking safety-conscious and motivated individuals to join the Operations Maintenance Team. Operating within an established maintenance management system, your key focus will be to promote a high level of team interaction and coordination.
Position Synopsis
Reporting directly to the Area Superintendent Maintenance, you will be responsible for the day to day supervision and coordination of your team. You will provide support and apply your knowledge of maintenance planning to optimize maintenance tasks and work quality. Consistent application of your efforts will contribute to the achievement of business targets.
Some of your other key accountabilities will include:
* Maintaining a high profile in the promotion of safe working conditions and practices to ensure a safe working environment;
* Taking responsibility for identifying and resolving problems, and for assessing the potential impact on production, plant and equipment;
* Monitoring and measuring standards of work and performance of team members;
* Leading and coaching team members in the active pursuit and achievement of maintenance and productivity targets;
* Liaising with planners with the development of daily, weekly, monthly plans;
* Assisting Area Superintendent with the development of the two year budget and 5 year capital maintenance plan;
* Conducting workplace area inspections both within your areas of responsibility and across other areas;
* Reviewing ongoing planning activities with the aim of continuously improving equipment availability and reliability; and
* Coordination and Supervision of contractors.
Skills and Experience
To be considered, you must have a Mechanical or Electrical trade certificate, with strong practical experience in developing and leading maintenance planning and scheduling. Your track record testifies to your highly developed analytical and problem solving skills, and proven ability to communicate plans clearly and concisely. You will have excellent people management skills, with demonstrated experience in leading workgroups and contractors.
Working knowledge with GSAP, coupled with experience in the mining or heavy industry sectors is essential.
Location
This is a residential role, based in Port Hedland in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Located on the coast, Port Hedland is the largest regional centre in the North West, close to Broome, Karratha and Karijini National Park. The 15,000-strong population enjoys well-established education service, entertainment, sporting, shopping and medical facilities, and a strong sense of community.
