Maintenance Coordinator

BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s mining operations in the spectacular Pilbara region of WA are one of the largest in the world, shipping more than 120Mtpa of iron ore. Our railways, consisting of more than 800km of track, connect our mines in the Pilbara with our shipping facilities in Port Hedland. The heavy haulage rail system, the heaviest in the world, with more than 100 locomotives and around 4,500 carriages, uses state of the art technology across all facets of the operation.

We now seek safety-conscious and motivated individuals to ensure that our frontline operations teams maintain high levels of plant reliability and availability. Opportunities currently exist in the Production team for a Maintenance Coordinator.

Position Synopsis

You will apply your knowledge of operations and maintenance management principles to resolving plant faults and failures as well as driving operator and maintainer driven reliability programmes. Consistent application of your efforts will contribute to the achievement of business targets. We require a responsible individual for the development of the daily, weekly and monthly schedules for operations and maintenance activities, as well as someone with a focus on improvement.

Some of your key accountabilities will include:

* Maintaining a high profile in the promotion of safe working conditions and practices to ensure a safe working environment;
* Taking responsibility for identifying and resolving problems, and for assessing the potential impact on production, plant and equipment availability;
* Reviewing ongoing maintenance activities with the aim of continuously improving equipment availability and reliability;
* Prioritising plans and ensuring that all shift maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with all applicable standards and regulations;
* Monitoring KPI’s and assisting with budget and cost control processes;
* Ensuring that the Work Management Process Flow is adhered to by all disciplines within the workgroup;
* Maintaining high levels of communication with the team members and stakeholders;
* Ensuring an accurate maintenance history is complied and the backlog is updated and managed;
* Analyse maintenance work order feedback, update data and audit for accuracy, format and content;
* Collaborating with Supervisors/Planners in reviewing the schedule to ensure it is logical and realistic;
* Preparing forward maintenance schedules in consultation with maintenance and operations departments;
* Coordinating and ensuring shutdowns and maintenance cleaning activities involving employee and contractor workforces are fully planned and scheduled to meet the business outage plan; and
* Coordinating and supervising effective resolution of plant breakdowns where appropriate.

Skills and Experience

To be considered, you must have extensive experience in a frontline operations role where you have managed both production and maintenance teams, you are likely to be trade qualified, however, this is not a mandatory requirement. Your track record testifies to your highly developed analytical and problem solving skills, and proven ability to communicate plans clearly and concisely. Previous supervisory experience will be well regarded.

A working knowledge of PC based planning systems and packages, coupled with experience in the mining or heavy industry sectors, will be well regarded.

Location

This is a residential role, based in Port Hedland in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Located on the coast, Port Hedland is the largest regional centre in the North West, close to Broome, Karratha and Karijini National Park. The 15,000-strong population enjoys well-established education service, entertainment, sporting, shopping and medical facilities, and a strong sense of community.
