Location: Australia BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) is the world’s largest seaborne coking coal supplier. BMA operates nine mine sites and a coal loading port in Central Queensland. Owned and operated by BMA, Peak Downs Mine is one of the world’s largest open cut coal operations, producing 9 Mtpa of hard coking coal. Our 800 employees live in nearby Moranbah, a modern well-equipped town 200km west of Mackay and the Whitsunday coast. This particular position is currently able to commute to and from Brisbane if desired.
We are currently seeking a Short Term Planning Engineer to join the Technical Services team at Peak Downs Mine. The ideal candidate will have mine planning experience within dragline operations, truck and shovel prestrip or mine scheduling. Once on board there will be scope to further develop skills in your selected area of experience or to broaden your experience and skills across the other facets of mine planning.
Reporting to a Senior Planning Engineer, you will be part of a team responsible for the operational planning and optimisation within the daily to 18 months in advance time frames. You will work closely with the Mine Production Department, Contracts Department and Tech Services Department, thus allowing you to develop and demonstrate a high level of interpersonal and leadership skills honing your ability for your next career progression.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* All facets of machine and operations planning
* Preparation of pit/dump designs, reserves and short term scheduling
* Liaising with the short and mid term planning teams;
* Involvement in the business excellence process;
* Assisting with the annual operating and capital budgets
To be successful in this role you will have:
* Strong commitment to safety,
* Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or similar,
* Mine Planning or Mine Engineering experience in an open cut mine
* Be able to work in a dynamic team environment,
* An eye for detail and the ability to identify opportunities for improvement
* Strong communication skills.
Candidates with the following will be highly regarded:
* A high level of computer literacy, with competence utilising the VULCAN and XPAC suite of software
* Previous exposure to a multi seam open cut coal mine
* Experience with either dragline or truck and shovel operations
