PURPOSE
The Gulf of Mexico Production Unit, which manages deepwater fields operated by BHP Billiton, has an opening for a highly motivated Senior Geophysicist. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing subsurface evaluations using 3D seismic and well data. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to provide seismic reprocessing and well planning expertise to the GOM PU team. The immediate areas of involvement will in the planning, structural reconstruction and interpretation of a Rich Azimuth survey over Neptune and Shenzi fields. Good understanding of structural modeling and salt tectonics is most desirable. The Gulf of Mexico PU is responsible for the production from Neptune, Shenzi and other operated fields. As such, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing geophysical input and technical expertise to a broad spectrum of seismic acquisition, interpretations, further delineation and identifying additional drillable opportunities in the producing fields.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
This position reports to the Gulf of Mexico Production Unit Geosciences Manager
Key accountabilities will be to:
• Interface with Geoscience and Subsurface Engineering teams
• Implement processes to improve workflow efficiency
• Communicate with JV partners.
• Work with Geoscience function to ensure compliance to standards
• Develop and maintain networks and working relationships with key peers and colleagues in other asset teams (especially the Joint Interest Units in the Gulf of Mexico and the Nearfields teams) for purposes of information and ideas sharing
• Adhere to HSEC Policy and Management Standards
• Support HSEC initiatives and ensure compliance with the agreed HSEC procedures and practices of all activities in areas of discipline responsibility

The candidate must be able to take a lead technical role in specific projects but also be comfortable with working in a modern non-hierarchical environment. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary team environment. Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Conduct subsurface evaluations and mapping using seismic and well data.
• Assist with structural reconstruction, reservoir mapping, connectivity and characterization studies. A strong background in structural and seismic interpretation and understanding of the slat tectonics is a most desirable.
• Participate in various seismic projects (acquisition, depth conversion and reprocessing efforts) and contribute towards the improvements to subsalt image, velocity model, time-depth conversion etc.
• Carry out stratigraphic/reservoir mapping using Landmark, GeoProbe and other applications
• Identify value creating opportunities and mature well targets for future drilling
• Participate in the well planning team and assist writing of the Basis of Well Design documents
• Interface with Shallow Hazards, Drilling and Well Operations teams as needed
• Carry out post well analysis and update maps
• Monitor seismic acquisition, processing and as required well operations and develop operational “look-aheads” to facilitate contingency planning and adequate resourcing allocation
• Ensure that all seismic and geophysical-related well data is accurately housed in the appropriate project and corporate databases;
• Liaison and coordinate with other teams, in-house specialists, contractors and consultants. Engage and monitor work by specialists and specialist contractors as and when needed
• Help communicate the team’s technical results, conclusions and recommendations to joint venture partner and BHP Billiton staff in both formal and informal forums.
AUTHORITY & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The candidate will work closely with the Gulf of Mexico Production Unit Geoscience team

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate should have 5 to 15 years of relevant experience in the upstream petroleum industry. Familiarity with Geophysical workstation mapping techniques and workflows is required. Experience with the following is beneficial:
• Demonstrated technical writing skills
• Good understanding of structural reconstruction and salt tectonics
• Reservoir connectivity studies
• Practical experience with 3D and 2D seismic reprocessing projects
• Offshore Drilling Operations
• GOM Deepwater petroleum system
• Proficient in Landmark, GeoProbe and other mapping applications
Qualifications
Bachelors or higher Degree in relevant geoscience discipline
