Organization/DepartmentThe Structural/Civil Engineer is responsible for all structural/civil engineering and design on the Project. Also responsible to ensure that the FEED contractor produces cost effective structures that are designed to meet the Project's performance requirements. Also responsible to oversee the FEED contractor's production of the required Project Design Basis structural deliverables within the project budget and schedule. Ensures that the Project's requirements, as detailed in the Early Project Development Basis and Facilities Design Basis, for all structures are met. Assists with all aspects structural engineering for the Project, whenever called upon by the Civil, Structural and Infrastructure Lead. Facilitates interfaces among the Civil, Structural and Infrastructure Lead, company Functions, and the FEED contractor's organization with respect to structural issues.
Job descriptionResponsibilities
•Provide overall structural engineering technical oversight and expertise
•Coordinate engineering team members' involvement in structural activities, including interaction with EPC contractor's structural personnel
•Prepare and submit engineering progress data, including narratives, charts, graphs, etc., to the Civil, Structural and Infrastructure Lead
•Advise the FEED contractor's structural effort with respect to:
Structural engineering analyses as required for the design of fixed plant structures, piperacks, etc.
Detailed calculations and computer analyses for the design of miscellaneous appurtenances such buildings as, vent/flare stacks, bridges, elevated walkways, etc.
Detailed calculations and computer analyses of miscellaneous structural components such as lifting eyes, lifting trunions, and other highly restrained critical connections.
Design of cathodic protection systems
Review of piping stress isometrics for support and loading requirements.
Compliance with design methods and safety factors to be used in design of project
•Steward the FEED contractor's structural engineering and design activities including:
Structural engineering and design input to the Project Design Basis/other Gate 3 deliverables
Recommended deliverables and labor hour estimate for structural work
Measurement and reporting of engineering progress
Preparation of the technical specifications to be used for material procurement and planning of fabrication and installation of the structures and components
Review of squad check drawings and other deliverables as required for cross discipline design coordination
Review of vendor data for completeness of information required for structural design and compliance with project specifications
Procurement related structural items including preparation of specifications, etc.
Transportation and transportation fatigue analyses as required
Preparation and maintenance of weight control reports for all disciplines.
RequirementsQualifications
•Structural engineering and design principles, theories, and concepts
•Applicable codes, standards (API, AISC and AWS), and trade practices
•Company practices, processes, and expectations with respect to process engineering
•Working knowledge and expert judgment in the selection and application of structural analyses hardware and software
•Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/ Structural Engineering
•5+ years of closely related professional engineering experience
•Previous Oil Sands experience a must
