Our Client:
Our client is a well-financed oil sands producer based in Calgary with its principal assets and interests being within the oil sands in Northern Alberta. The position will contribute to the success of the Company’s SAGD operation by applying your experience and expertise in electrical engineering. This role is responsible for the
electrical technical aspects of the implementation of the Electrical Quality Management Plant (EQMP) as well as the development, roll out, the implementation and the continuous improvement on the Electrical Safety Program (ESP) for the organization in conjunction with all the other groups. The Operations Electrical Engineer coordinates with all other business units (operations, site services, projects, drilling and completion, marketing, reservoir, business development and strategy groups, environmental / regulatory) for the purpose of providing adherence to the electrical programs (EQMP,
ESP). This role will also provide as required technical electrical engineering support for day to day on-going operations.
Reporting Structure:
This position reports directly to the Operations Technical Services Manager.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Develop and implement the Company’s Electrical Safety Program (ESP) and provide roll out, training and continuous support to Company and contract personnel.
Lead and manage the implementation and advancement of the Electrical Quality Management Plant (EQMP) in conjunction with the projects, site services, operations, marketing groups
Provide technical electrical engineering support to ongoing Operations
Develop the plan for the creation of a dedicated Operations electrical group to support the day to day operations, M&R considering the aggressive Company growth within the Operations group.
Ensure the Alberta Electric Safety Operator RMP Compliance Monitoring Program is respected and followed (statutory and technical requirements as Independent System Operator rules, Alberta Reliability Standards, Outage Planning and Coordination with AESO)
In conjunction with the Projects Electrical Engineer Lead, develop the strategy and the plan for the creation of a dedicated high voltage electrical group to support the aggressive growth for the Company addressing mainly the operation and maintenance of the assets
Provide technical electrical engineering support as required to the Operations Engineering group to ensure electrical engineering compliance requirements of projects designed and executed by the Operations group are met (safety codes, asset integrity management, regulatory, measurement, records management, engineering specifications and standards, APEGGA requirements).
Provide support as required to the Operations MOC process ensuring that all the electrical related needs are met and addressed.
Provide as required electrical technical input into the design and procurement activities of various small projects executed by the Operations group.
Ensure all Operations electrical needs/requirements are met and addressed in future development projects (small or large)
Provide as required electrical technical support to the Operation Reliability group.
Provide mentoring as required to junior Operations electrical personnel
Review and approve electrical design and documents developed in the engineering house including specifications, drawings
Ensure that electrical systems are designed such that they can be constructed and operated safely
Provide assistance as required in commissioning and start-up activities
Skills/Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university
Registered member of APEGGA
15-20 years’ experience in positions related to engineering technical design as well as working with an Operating organization
Good technical knowledge in electrical equipment and systems, including medium to high voltage with proven experience
Membership of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers is an asset
Experience with EQMP and ESP programs (development to implementation) would be required
Experience with Utility Operations would be an asset
Field construction experience would be an asset
Strong technical knowledge in electrical equipment and systems
Knowledge and experience with SAGD and Cogeneration construction and operations
Proven leadership capabilities demonstrated through the implementation of various programs or projects
Personal and professional integrity, highly motivated and strong interpersonal/ leadership skills
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
