New Orleans based commercial construction company seeks a skilled Safety Director. The Safety Director will be responsible for overseeing and managing the day to day safety requirements on all projects and of all employees on site. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded person who knows safety, understands the intent of the law and works well with construction personnel. Candidates MUST HAVE: At least an Associates degree; 6-7 years of commercial construction experience including office buildings and retail centers; Knowledge of computer operations and applications including MS Word, MS Excel; Technical skills in construction, negotiating;Safety knowledge and awareness of OSHA requirements. A certificate safety (CSP) and hazard control (CHPM) are strongly preferred. RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide safety direction and supervision for 50-60 subcontractors; Oversee job/construction sites ensuring safety and compliance; Create and maintain a safety program for office, warehouse and field operations; Identify and implement safety training programs; Keep OSHA recordables within limits to allow work in the most stringent plants; Anticipate, identify and prevent risks; Work closely with workers compensation representative; Supervise other safety managers.The selected candidate will supervise and hire a staff of two. This is not a desk job and the selected person will spend much of the time in the field and on various job sites within a 120 mile range. Bilingual Spanish and English is a plus.
