Protection Engineer - Substation/Protection/Relay 60-90 K/yr

Engineering client is looking for a Substation Protection & Control Engineer (Relay Engineer) with 2-10 years of experience performing substation protection, control and communications design for high voltage (69kV or above) electrical substation projects. You need a BSEE or MSEE. A PE license would be a big plus. Salary is commensurate with experience & education. Responsibilities:

-> Perform substation protection, control & communications engineering as part of a team to support turn-key engineering, project management, & construction efforts
-> Develop equipment specifications for protection, control, and communications equipment in the substation
-> Work with client to develop scope of work and conceptual design for new and modifications to existing substations
-> Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members on the development of one & three line diagrams, schematics and wiring diagrams
-> Developing client relationships

Requirements:

-> 2-10 years of experience designing protection & control systems (relays & metering) for high voltage substations
-> You need experience with microprocessor based protective relays
-> Perform system analyses including relay coordination, grounding, load flow, short circuit, and stability & power quality studies for high voltage substations
-> Use software applications (SKM, ETAP, ASPEN, etc...) for ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, and load flow and short circuit studies
-> Ability to prepare relay panel specifications and relay setting calculations
-> Experience with advanced high voltage substation protective relaying, carrier schemes, telecommunications, and SCADA
-> BSEE or MSEE degree....a PE license a PLUS

Questions you will be asked:

• Detail your experience as a Protection & Control Engineer or Relay Engineer working on high voltage electrical substation designs. How many years of experience? What voltage were these substations?

• Do you have a BSEE or MSEE degree? How about a PE license?

• Do you have experience developing equipment specifications for protection, control, & communications equipment in high voltage substations?

• Detail your experience designing relay schemes and relay settings. Do you have experience performing short circuit & protective relay coordination studies.

• Detail your experience using SKM, ETAP, ASPEN and similar software for ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing & load flow and short circuit studies.
