Client is seeking a Computer programmer/engineer for a direct hire position in Birmingham, AL. Candidate must have a strong background in web programming to create more and better tools to increase the productivity of the electrical transmission system design process. Customer is in the midst of migrating from a number of custom built engineering drawing management systems to one common system. The successful candidate will quickly become a critical member of the development team. Duties include developing applications for both desktop and web environments in multiple operating systems in order to enhance the Transmission Design processes. Candidate will develop and write applications to leverage the functionality of the transmission organization's web based drawing management system, and web sites, & provide maintenance and support for the company Transmission applications and web sites. Candidate should be fluent in one or more of the following technical skills: Solaris/Unix management, Apache, Perl, JavaScript, SQL (Oracle and MySQL). Knowledge of or an ability to learn AJAX, WEB 2.0, AutoCAD, SharePoint, Visual Studio and C++/C# are a plus. Candidates with experience in engineering design principles and/or substations/transmission lines are desired but such familiarity is not required. BS degree (or higher) in Engineering, Computer Science, or other related major is required.
