A rapidly growing, diversified base metals mining company with multiple international operations has an immediate requirement for an experienced environmental manager for its newest large base metal project. The project is situated close to a very large freshwater body so environmental sensitivity is heightened.
Feasibility study has just begun and the mine is expected to be in production in 2011. Site investigation and early development activities are underway, construction is expected to begin in 2009. Plant throughput rate will be between 6 and 8 million tonnes per year.
Reporting to the General Director this is initially a project role expected for 3-4 years during mine development. Major goals will include execution of environmental compliance plans and reclamation strategies by providing direction and supervision to the environmental sustainability employees and ensuring that the compliance targets and schedules are met as forecast. In addition the position leads the development of environmental plans and reclamation strategies and coordinates with consultants and key stakeholders.
Responsibilities include:
Preparation of the Environment and Social Impact Statement
Preparation of the Russian OVOS
Management of the environmental consultant
Development and implementation of the project environmental management system to support attainment of ISO 14001 status
Site environmental compliance
Presentations to community and regulatory authorities
Lead site environmental personnel
Participate and contribute to the corporate Mining Environmental, Health and Safety network
Qualifications:
University degree in related environmentally related sciences
Senior level experience in the development and operation of environmental management systems for industrial operations and/or construction
Experience in ISO 14001
Team player
Excellent communication skills both written and oral. Russian language skills an asset
Thrives in a challenging and high paced environment with tight deadlines
Ability to influence and impact outcomes
Contract conditions negotiable for the right candidate. Position can be residential or fifo.
