Summary Description of Duties:
Purpose of Role
To oversee activities related to environmental engineering and to ensure service and / or operating standards are met (internally and / or externally). To design and develop processes, practices, and methodologies in environmental services.
Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties
1. To oversee activities related to a system, program, or process in environmental services
Independently handles permitting activities including application submittal, monitoring, and reporting
Using advanced professional knowledge, acts as an advisor to a variety of internal and / or external requests related to environmental awareness and law
Proposes new work approaches, methods, and policies to optimize performance and to ensure adherence to industry regulations and organizational standards
Contributes to the development of policies and practices related to environmental services
Keeps on top of trends related to environmental services and incorporates this information into work assignments
Monitors costs related to environmental services and implements approved recommendations for maximizing operational efficiencies
Actively seeks mentorship and learning to improve product or technical knowledge and skill set
Participates in task forces related to area of expertise
Assists Environmental Technicians in performing environmental monitoring and sampling
Conducts regular and frequent inspections of company operations to ensure regulatory and permit compliance
2. To analyze information and prepare technical documents to support decision making
Investigates, researches, and analyzes information and issues related to environmental sciences
Prepares business cases regarding projects and initiatives and presents recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders
Prepares technical reports and documentation to ensure compliance with industry and operational requirements
Conducts studies and research necessary for permit application or modification, feasibility, and problem solving
Prepares annual reports
3. To communicate information related to environmental engineering
Assists with training and skill development on technical issues in environmental engineering
Provides information on operating standards, compliance requirements and policies
Qualifications:
KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR SUCCESS
University graduation or diploma
Additional specialized education of up to 4 years
Formal professional or technical designation in appropriate area of expertise
2-5 years of related work experience
Working knowledge of the provisions of environmental permits and regulations
Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred
Basic knowledge of all phases of mining and milling operations, as well as environmental monitoring and sampling
