Our client, one of the world's leading suppliers of Iron Ore, is looking for a motivated individual to lead the environmental section of their contract mining operations.
Based in Western Australia, our client operates several mining operations, port facilities, on-site processing plants and railway and is going from strength to strength.
Position Description
Our client is seeking a dedicated leader to join them at one of their operations to provide support, leadership and resources in the areas of Environment to their Contract Mining Operations by communicating, promoting and implementing our HSEC Policy and Standards.
You will plan, coordinate and control the work of Environment department personnel, whilst assisting the Manager Environment - Mining Operations to develop and implement the Department Business Plan. Accountabilities will also include;
Providing specialist Environmental advice, assistance and support to the contract mine managers and supervisors as well as developing, coaching and mentoring your team of environmental professionals;
Managing direct reports to ensure the timely achievement of plans and objectives;
Coordinating the effective implementation of Environmental Management System improvements, HSE policies and practices, and applicable regulations;
Ensuring effective use of industry best practices and consistency in approach to HSE activities both within the Contract Mining Operations and across the business;
Promoting a risk-based approach to HSE management;
Leading initiatives to promote visible and pro-active management commitment and employee involvement in environmental activities;
Conducting or participating in periodic HSE audits and inspections, formal incident reviews and the preparation of documentation;
Ensuring HSE performance data is effectively collected, stored, analysed, tracked and reported according to internal procedure and regulatory requirement; and,
Overseeing the maintenance of Mining Operations document control processes.
Promote research and development;
Co-ordinate communication of environmental issues to management, employees, contractors and the community
Actively participating in the expansion of the business by facilitating the achievement of environmental approvals and the management of environmental surveys.
Skills and Experience
You will have experience directing and developing personnel, extensive experience as an Environmental professional, with supporting tertiary qualifications in Environment. Extensive experience within the mining or heavy industry sector is a must. A thorough knowledge of relevant legislation and standards is important with experience in managing environmental management systems a prerequisite for success.
A team-spirited approach and excellent interpersonal skills round out the skill-set is required
