Pend Oreille Mine
Teck Cominco Washington Incorporated is recruiting for a Senior Environmental Specialist to work at its Pend Oreille Mine located near Metaline Falls, Washington. The mine is a room-and-pillar zinc-lead operation producing 2200 tons per day of ore. Metaline Falls was voted one the top 100 best small towns in North America and the area offers excellent recreational opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, trees and plenty of wildlife. Reporting to the General Manager, Teck Cominco Washington Incorporated, Pend Oreille Mine, the Senior Environmental Specialist is accountable for ensuring compliance with Pend Oreille Mine’s water management program, and for the daily environmental activities associated with waste management, air quality, storm water and environmental training and other compliance issues as necessary.
Essential Responsibilities:
Preparation of applications for permits, permit amendments, letters of approval, license(s), and generator registration updates and compliance monitoring reports
Ensuring sampling, analysis, quality control, and monitoring meet regulatory requirements and Pend Oreille Mine monitoring goals
Compiling and evaluating monitoring data and preparing reports for regulatory agencies
Ensuring continued management of the Environmental Management System and developing and implementing the EMS database
Conducting specific assignments during development and implementation of the Environmental Management Program including risk assessment, procedure, and training program development, employee training and internal audits
Communicating environmental performance to management, employees, and stakeholders
Managing the water program: conducting NPDES weekly, monthly and quarterly water quality sampling
Conducting Best Management Practices repair and construction, equipment troubleshooting and data interpretation. Knowledge of field instrumentation (pH, ORP, DO meters) and well water purging is required
Representing Pend Oreille Mine with regulatory agencies.
Qualifications:
The encumbent will have an Undergraduate Degree in Environmental Science or other related disciplines as well as a minimum of 5-6 years of experience as an Environmental Specialist. Prefererence will be given to individuals with experience in a mining environment or similar industry.
Teck Cominco Washington Incorporated is a drug-free work place. The successful candidate must pass a post offer physical and drug test.
